The Clemmons Community Foundation has announced the recipients of The Kim & Chris Henson Scholarship Awards. The two students from the Reagan High School Class of 2021 to receive the scholarships are Lydia Randall and Zachary Shaw.

The Kim & Chris Henson Scholarship Awards, new in 2021, are given to two student-athletes, one pursuing a four-year degree that leads to a career in the medical field and another pursuing a four-year degree leading to a career in teaching.

Randall plans to attend East Carolina University and study biology, minoring in exercise and sport science on the pre-physician assistant track. She shares that, “No matter what, I know I will end up in the medical field, whether that is PA, PT, or something else entirely. I have the personality and work ethic to succeed. I love continuously learning, science, applying knowledge, innovation and problem-solving. Most importantly, I love interacting and helping others.” A swimmer while at Reagan High School, Randall plans to represent her high school positively while at ECU. I hope I can share the values I learned on the swim team and the generosity shown to me and make my Reagan family proud.”

Randall was also active with many service clubs at Reagan, including Reagan Girls Service Club, Cancer Awareness Research for Everyone, and Students Against Destructive Decisions.

Shaw will attend Greensboro College and study physical education and health, planning to become a coach. “I chose this because of the impact my coaches had on me during the four-year span in high school. My dream is to be able to help students the way my teachers and coaches helped me,” said Shaw. Upon award of his scholarship, he shared the following. “I’m very thankful for The Kim & Chris Henson Scholarship Award. The scholarship is a way to see that hard work in the classroom and in your sport has been seen. I am honored to receive it and can’t wait to make the organization proud.”

Shaw played football for all four years of high school and ran track for two. He also assisted as a basketball coach at Calvary Baptist Church while in middle school, working with younger children.

The Kim and Chris Henson Scholarship Awards are made possible by Kim and Chris Henson. Kim Henson serves on the board of directors of the Clemmons Community Foundation. She and Chris are residents and active members of the Lewisville community. In addition, they are proud parents of two Reagan alumni who went on to pursue advanced degrees and meaningful careers in teaching and medicine. These awards are given in honor of their two daughters, who were student-athletes at Reagan High School.

The Clemmons Community Foundation facilitates these and other scholarship opportunities for local philanthropists. For more information on the scholarship programs, go to clemmonsfoundation.org. Additional awards from their 2021 opportunities will be announced in the coming weeks.
