Josie Myers Flowers

April 27, 1908-July 8, 2014

Mrs. Josie Myers Flowers, also known as “Granny” by those who knew and loved her was born on a farm in Davidson County to William Sanford and Mammie Scott Myers on April 27, 1908. Josie passed on to the more immediate presence of Jesus on July 8, 2014. In 1927 Boyd Francis Flowers came to Davidson County to see Will Myers on business. During his visit to the farm he saw Josie and it was love at first sight. They were later married and moved to Forsyth County where they had two boys, William Francis Flowers (Super) and Bobby Lee Flowers. In 1951 Boyd and his boys started a plumbing business, Flowers and Sons Plumbing & Heating. Josie was a key part of the business taking calls and keeping the books. When Boyd passed in 1960 the Lord was good to Josie as she still had her two boys to help her continue the business. She retired from Flowers & Sons Plumbing at the age of 85. A favorite past time for Josie was making yoyos. She would hand stitch yoyos for hours, making them into book markers, quilts, table runners and flower arrangements. More than making yoyos she loved to give them away. She taught many young girls and women to make yoyos including the Friedberg Moravian Prayers and Squares Ministry team. Josie was blessed with many friends and a loving family. At 106 years of age Josie was the oldest member of Friedberg Moravian Church. The family would like to thank a few special Friedberg brothers and sisters who faithfully visited for several years; Rev. Tom Shelton, Rev. Jim Newsome and wife Holley, Wanda Russell, Bonnie Tucker, Joan Tutterow, Betty Reich, Jane Tutterow, Joy Reich, Susan Crater and Bill Foltz. Josie was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Francis Flowers, her son Super Flowers and one granddaughter, Bonnie Kay Flowers. She is survived by her son Bobby Lee Flowers and wife Doris H. Flowers, daughter in law Annie W. Flowers and a very special niece Dot Hardee and husband Bud. Josie had seven grandchildren; Sherry Edwards and husband Jerry, Winky Flowers and wife Karen, Robbie Stiefel and husband Eric, Penny Minor and husband Ronnie, Gene Flowers and wife Jackie, Bobby Flowers and Patti Chambers and husband Neal, 11 great grand children and five great-great grand children and loving cousins Edith Clark, Lois Dale, Stamie Moore and Rachel Vernon. A graveside service was held Friday, July 11 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. James C. Newsome, Jr. and Rev. Dan K. Nelson officiated. In lieu, of flowers memorials may be made to Friedberg Moravian Church Mission Fund, 2178 Friedberg Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
