Joyce Benfield Hunter 

Joyce Benfield Hunter passed away on Monday, September 15th, 2014 at Bermuda Commons. She was born in Valdese, North Carolina on December 9, 1925 to Vern and Beulah Benfield. 

Joyce attended Valdese High School, Mars Mills College and graduated from Appalachian State University where she received a degree in Primary Education. She married Campbell Hunter in 1948. 

Mrs. Hunter was an avid bridge player. She was very happy to be able to knit over 400 hats for cancer patients and enjoyed teaching adults how to read. She taught in schools for 30 years in both Burke and Forsyth County and retired from Forsyth Country Day School as a charter member. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Kenneth Benfield and a grandson, Justin Sheets. Surviving Mrs. Hunter are her husband of 66 years, Campbell Hunter, two daughters: Betsy Hunter Hannah (Dan) of Stuart, VA, Ann Hunter Demarest (Bill) of Mocksville, NC; one grandchild Emily Hunter Demarest, two great grandchildren: Tyler Sheets and Charlee Sheets and a sister Peggy Ray of Mebane.

Memorials may be made to Liberty Hospice, 1007 Lexington Avenue, Thomasville, NC 27360.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2014 at Clemmons United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 1:00 p.m. in the Commons area of Clemmons UMC.
