In an election with catchy phrases, Clemmons voters “Picked Nick” Nelson over six-year incumbent Mayor John Bost 1,594 to 855 on Tuesday — a two to one margin.

Bost escaped defeat in 2011 by 58 votes against write-in Jim Hayes. Facing a popular young council member this time with a clever slogan, Bost didn’t survive despite a delegation of West Forsyth High students who volunteered to help him at the polls.

For the council, two-year incumbent Mike Rogers led the ticket with 1,583 votes. Twenty-year incumbent Mary Cameron received 1,282 votes.

Newcomer and conservative Bill Lawry was the surprise of the evening, grabbing the third seat available with 1,121 votes.

All three won seats on the council.

Finishing fourth, Chuck Houska, who led the effort to establish the Tanglewood dog park last year, received 919 votes.

Incumbent Michael D. Gautreaux, appointed last year to fill the term of the late Chris Jones, received 878 votes. Former board member Jack Ingle received 806.

A host of issues swirled about the campaign. Fallout from the defeated $6 million bond referendum in 2011 that sank three council incumbents revisited this campaign, but Cameron easily survived.

Mayor Bost had once fallen into the crosshairs of the National Rifle Association, and that again motivated some gun enthusiasts.

In Lewisville, Mayor Dan Pugh was unopposed and received 888 votes.

Lewisville decides its entire council every two years. The top six vote getters were elected. The unofficial results were:
