The rewards for four years of dedicated study are pouring in for West Forsyth High seniors. Last week, a Morehead-Cain scholar. This week, the N.C. State Univeersity equivalent — the Park Scholarship.
Samuel Owen Webster, 18, son of Timothy and Susan Webster of Clemmons, has received the Park Scholarship, one of 41 awarded recently to next year’s freshman class in Raleigh.
He ranks among the top of his graduating class.
Samuel will graduate from West Forsyth where he is president of Young Political Leaders and the National Honor Society, and trumpet section leader in the marching band. He has interned with Organizing for America, the Coalition to Protect All North Carolina Families, and attended North Carolina’s Governor’s School West for social sciences. Samuel plans to major in engineering.
The Park Scholarships are named for the late Roy H. Park, ’31, an NC State alumnus who created the charitable Park Foundation, dedicated to education, media, and the environment.
Also receiving a Park was Danielle Elizabeth Winter, daughter of Keith and Diane Winter, Winston-Salem. Danielle will graduate from the Early College of Forsyth. She is captain of the R.J. Reynolds High School women’s cross country team and founder of Sisters to Stop Traffic, an anti-human-trafficking ministry. Danielle is involved in various ministries at Clemmons United Methodist Church and received the Winston-Salem Student Human Relations Award for completing close to 500 hours of community service. Danielle plans to study environmental engineering.
Approximately 40 scholarships are awarded each year. Park Scholarships include opportunities for innovative enrichment activities such as grants for undergraduate research and study abroad, making this award one of the most prestigious and comprehensive undergraduate scholarships in the nation.
