First year teacher Olivia McNeill at West Forsyth High School has been awarded the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System’s Promise Award presented to new teachers.
McNeill teaches English II and serves as the yearbook and journalism advisor.
“The Promise Award is an honor given to a first year teacher in our school district. Some of the qualities they look for in a teacher are potential, innovation, responsibility, ingenuity and excellence.
“I am a 2012 graduate from Appalachian State University and was a student teacher here last year so the transition to full-time teacher at West was very easy for me.”
“I am awe struck by this award. I work hard everyday and never expect any type of award or recognition. But when someone does notice what you are trying to accomplish each day, it’s awesome.”
“I was born in Boone and my Dad is a college football coach so we moved around a lot. I decided on Appalachian so that I could be close to family if my mom and dad moved again. Luckily he is now the head football coach for East Carolina University so it all worked out.”
