Lawrence Joseph Beckner Sr. (L.J.) 

Oct. 12, 1939-June 19, 2014 

This is the story of an extraordinary man, very extraordinary. This legend of a man was born October, 12 1939. He was born to Melvin Sides Beckner and Lola Josephine Petree Beckner in Forsyth County where he was raised on a dairy farm and attended Southwest School. On October 11, 1958 Lawrence was married to the love of his life Joye Mae Wolfe of Winston Salem. In 1959 he started working at R.J. Reynolds tobacco where he would spend 35 great years until he retired in 1995. Surviving are his beloved wife Joye of 55 years, Daughter Donna Boyles with husband Pat and sons Chase and Barrett. Son Lawrence Jr. (Butch) and sons Brent his wife Ashley and son Brody (Great-Grandson) and Kory with wife Felicia and son Brycen (Great-Grandson). Preceded in death by son Brian and surviving wife Robin with sons Lars and Lucas. Robin’ husband Jim Morgan and his sons Chris and Justin. Daughter Angela (Angie) Richard with husband Christopher and daughter Brooke. Also surviving are his siblings: Brothers Gray and Henry Beckner, Sister Dianne Sweet, and preceded in death by his brother Ken Beckner. L.J. was a hardworking man who touched many lives with love and compassion. His daily goal was to wake up every morning and find someone who he could help. He started off every day at McDonalds in Clemmons with his breakfast buddies, these guys hold a special place in his heart. L.J. had a great love for the outdoors which included mowing, cutting wood and cooking BBQ. Celebration of life service for L.J. was held Sunday June 22nd at Faith Missionary Alliance Church/ Faith Church located on Gumtree Rd. officiated by Pastor Mike Gates.
