Sophie Kistner

August 30, 2014

Sophie Kistner left her journey here on August 30th, 2014. She was born in 1927 and enjoyed 87 years. Sophie was the youngest of six children and grew up on a dairy farm in Germany. That home remains as a historic landmark. Sophie came to the United States at a young age of 24 and worked in a deli, a book binding company, and an electronics factory. She also volunteered for years as a Volunteer Ambulance Corp responder that she helped start. When she retired she moved from New Jersey to Florida, where she enjoyed spending time with her friends playing bingo and rummy cubes. Sophie enjoyed crocheting, making clothes and doing all kinds of crafts. She was featured in an article in National Geographic. She crocheted hats for the Cub Scouts and babies in orphanages. Sophie was also a great cook and could make anything with little effort. She lived life to the fullest and was a great friend to everyone. Her love and smiling face was always a warm welcome to friends and family. She is survived by her loving son Bernhard Kistner Sr, daughter-in-law Eleanor Kistner, two grandchildren Bernhard Kistner Jr and Lisa White (David), four great-grandchildren Nickolus, Bryan, Lauren, and Cameron. Her journey may be over, but the memories of her will always remain in our hearts. A service to celebrate her life was held at the Clemmons Village II nursing home on Friday September 5th. A special thanks to all the staff at Clemmons Village II and Community Home Care and Hospice, the love and care you showed her will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in memory of Sophie Kistner to the Clemmons Village II resident fund, 6441 Holder Rd., Clemmons, NC 27012.
