Frances Swanson Lentz

Mrs. Frances Swanson Lentz of Clemmons passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the Bermuda Village Health Care Center. She was born August 8, 1920 in Forsyth County to Fred and Bessie Swanson. Mrs. Lentz was a member of Clemmons Moravian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edwin Lentz and a sister, Hazel Angel. Surviving are three sons, Eddie Lentz (Debbie) of Clemmons, Clay Lentz (Janice) also of Clemmons and Dan Lentz (Carrie) of Wilmington; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, Jim Swanson and two sisters, JoAnn Easter and Betty Logan. A memorial service was held Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Clemmons Moravian Church with Rev. Ray Burke officiating. Burial followed in the church graveyard. Reba Samantha Stimpson Dull

February 1, 1929 – January 8, 2016

Reba Samantha Stimpson Dull , 86, of Lewisville passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Vienna Village. She was born in Wake County on February 1, 1929, the youngest of three daughters to the late Joseph Erastus Stimpson and Edna Shoaf Dorsett. At age 13, she moved to Lewisville where she lived the remainder of her life. She was valedictorian of her graduating class of 1947 at Lewisville High School and organized many class reunions. On September 4, 1948 she married Henry Grady Dull, who was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, an early member of the Lewisville Historical Society and Lewisville Town Council. She was married for 54 years. After working for a few years at Modern Chevrolet, Reba spent 33 ½ years at Western Electric (AT&T), now Alcatel-Lucent and retired in 1988 as a Technical Writer. In addition to her business career, she and her children, husband and his parents spent much time on the family farm growing fruits and vegetables for the family and sharing with friends and relatives. She was an experienced cook and many delicious meals and desserts originated from the Dull family kitchen. She and her husband enjoyed attending outdoor dramas across the state and was supportive of the outdoor musicals at Shallowford Square. Reba was an active member of Lewisville Baptist Church for many years, and she enjoyed participating in many activities including the JOY (Just Old Youngsters) Club. In more recent years, she was a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church where she enjoyed the circle meetings, Sunday School and wonderful friendships. Reba was a faithful member of the Lewisville Historical Society (charter member), a member of the Clemmons YMCA and volunteered faithfully with the Forsyth County Board of Elections for many years, working the polls at Lewisville Elementary School. She loved her children and grandchildren and was always supportive of their endeavors. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Grady Dull, who passed away April 22, 2003, two sisters, Euphia Virginia S. Norwood Waller, Rhonda Edith S. Echols and a half-sister, Jo Ann McLean. Surviving are two children, Gary Maurice Dull and Karen Dull Baiada, both of Lewisville; three grandchildren, Thomas Matthew Baiada of Richmond, VA, and Daniel Mark Baiada and Emma Ann Dull both of Lewisville; a half-brother, Joseph Erastus (Earl) Stimpson of Angier, NC; a half-sister, Elizabeth Faye; and a nephew, John Arthur Echols of Murfreesboro, TN. The family would like to thank the owners and staff of Vienna Village for being so kind and providing such loving care. A funeral service was held Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Lewisville with Dr. Ivan Peden and Rev. Tom Albert officiating. Thomas Harold Worswick

10/25/1942 – 01/05/2016

Mr. Thomas Harold Worswick, 73, of Clemmons went home to the Lord on Tuesday January 5, 2016 from Forsyth Medical Center. Tom was born in Port Huron, MI, October 25, 1942 to Thomas and Bernice Worswick and raised with his brother Michael on the banks of the St. Clair River. Tom earned his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University and his graduate degree from Wayne State University. After 30 years of service at General Motors, Tom retired shortly after completing the management of the Corvette exterior. Tom was a man of strong faith, studying the bible each morning and closing every day in prayer with his wife Suzanne. He was a man whose wisdom was sought by others and whose humility and kindness grew with each passing year. Tom was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Tom held three loves from his childhood: boating, music and Lionel trains. He played clarinet locally in church and with community bands and over the years he has gifted a train set to each child and grandchild. Tom was a dedicated family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife of 51 years, children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. Tom is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne; brother Michael and family; three children, Thomas (Sandy), Elizabeth (Ron), and Stephanie (David) and seven grandchildren, Courtney, Nicole, Connor, Thomas “TJ”, David Nathan, Zoe and Levi. The family received friends Friday, January 8, 2016 at Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller Street in Winston-Salem. A memorial service followed with Dr. Don Gordon officiating. Magdalene Pegram Stewart

04/27/1932 – 01/03/2016

Magdalene Pegram Stewart, 83, was taken by the Lord to be with her husband in the evening hours on January 3, 2016. She was born April 27, 1932 to Paul and Mozelle Pegram of Stokesdale, N.C. On October 29, 1949 she married our daddy, Charlie Avery Stewart and was married for 54 years until he entered heaven in March of 2004. She didn’t know strangers.everyone was a friend. She would help you out in any way she could. If you ever came by the house, there was always food available. She was a model mother, she taught us early in life about Jesus and His love for us constantly, even when we went astray. She loved children as her 60 years teaching a 4-5 year old Sunday school class at Immanuel Baptist Church would attest. After raising 3 sons, she worked at Immanuel Daycare for almost 25 years. She loved her familybrothers, sisters, their spouses, nieces and nephews. She loved her children and their spouses, and our friends and their children. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren she loved everybody! She loved our daddya couple of weeks ago before Christmas she told us that she really missed him. I think she was trying to tell us something. But most of all, she loved her Lord. Because of that, even though we are saddened today, we can rejoice that one day we will see her and daddy again we know we have that hope! She was preceded in her Heavenly journey by her parents, husband, and oldest brother, Alvin J. Pegram. She is survived by her 3 sons and their spouses, Michael Stewart(Rebecca Lowman), Paul Stewart (Joy Harper), James Stewart (Tracee Tate); 6 grandchildren, Jason Stewart (Ashley), Karen Rondeau (Rob), Sherri Couch (Jason), Lindsey Sain (Alex), Morgan Stewart (Katey), Ariana Stewart (Zack); 11 great grandchildren, Sammy and Jake Stewart, Robert, Charlie and Luke Rondeau, Joshua and Laura Couch, Liberty, Malachi, Naomi and Odell Sain. Also surviving are 3 sisters, Nancy Isley (Ray), Judy Smith (Lynn), Elaine Smith; 2 brothers, Marvin Pegram (Shirley) and Mickey Pegram (Elaine); many nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Violet Swaim (Jerry). Funeral services were held Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to “Bibles for Africa”. Wiley C. Guthrie

July 30, 1923 – Jan. 4, 2015

Mr. Wiley C. Guthrie, 92, of Clemmons, NC, died Monday, January 4, 2016, at Wake Forest Baptist Health. He was born in Salisbury, NC, on July 30, 1923, to the late Jean Deal Guthrie and Tonley R. Guthrie. He spent his childhood years in Salisbury, graduating from Boyden High School. On August 25, 1943, he married Margaret Christine Woodford of Salisbury. He served in the US Army during World War II, first in the Pacific Theatre as a paratrooper for the 11th Airborne, and later in post-war Japan. He returned to NC to enter Wake Forest College in 1948 and was the first student to enroll in Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary on the old Wake Forest Campus in 1952. While in Seminary, he served as a student pastor at several Baptist churches in eastern NC. After completing his theological studies, he entered the US Air Force and served for the next twenty-two years as a chaplain, retiring in 1976. That fall he established a new Hospital Chaplaincy program in Vincennes, Indiana, before returning to NC in 1978 where he served as Pastor of Union Hill Baptist Church in Clemmons for ten years. Wiley and Margaret supported Wake Forest Divinity School with the establishment of the Martha Joyce Guthrie Scholarship Fund. The fund memorializes their daughter, Joyce, who died in infancy while Wiley was an undergraduate at Wake Forest. Since 2005 the scholarship fund has aided over 20 students. Wiley was an avid Wake Forest football fan, attending all of the home games for the last sixteen years. Chaplain Guthrie was a faithful member of Knollwood Baptist Church where he taught in the Roddick Sunday school class for a number of years. There will be a private family burial at Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury, NC. A memorial service was held at Knollwood Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC, on Friday, January 8, 2016, led by Dr. Bob Setzer, Jr. Chaplain Guthrie is survived by his children, Elizabeth G. Sides (Richard) of Winston-Salem, Faye G. Simmons (Leroy) of Swannanoa, NC, and David B. Guthrie (Amy) of Winston-Salem; his eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a brother, Norman Guthrie of Bakersville, NC. Doris Kathleen Tucker

April 29, 1933 – Jan. 9, 2016

Mrs. Doris Kathleen Tucker, 82, died Saturday, January 9, 2016. Mrs. Tucker was born in Forsyth County, NC, the second of five children of the late Walter Claude and Mary Emma Nelson Tucker. She married James Calvin (J.C.) Tucker, Jr. in 1958, and together they raised their two children, Kathy and Calvin. For many years, Doris cared for two other children, Trey and Chrissy Davis, while their parents worked. The Davis family has remained a loving part of her extended family. Doris was an extraordinary homemaker and cook. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings and loved traveling to visit her grandchildren. She planted and tended her small vegetable garden and enjoyed sharing its bounty. She made many beautiful quilts products of her excellent sewing skills. For several years, Doris worked at Brookridge Baptist Retirement Home in Winston-Salem. A 1953 graduate of Lewisville High School, she enjoyed revisiting her classmates at their many reunions through the years. She was often seen cheering the Wake Forest basketball team at their home games. Mrs. Tucker was a long-time member of Boyer’s Chapel Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. She is survived by daughter, Kathy D. Tucker, of the home; son, J. Calvin Tucker III (Deb) and grandchildren, Austin, Emma and Ellie Tucker, all of Summerville, SC; sisters, Marie T. Pegram and Betty H. Lanning (Guy); and brothers, Jerry W. Tucker (Mary Anne) and Jim D. Tucker (Joy). A funeral service was held Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel with Mr. James Percival and Mr. Jerry Williams officiating. Bobby Ray Miller

Bobby Ray Miller, 69, of Pfafftown, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Yadkin County September 23, 1946, the son of the late Lloyd Seaford Miller and Minnie Dixon Miller. Mr. Miller was a farmer. He is survived by one brother, James C. Miller and wife, Ida, of Pfafftown; one sister, Nancy M. Trivett and husband, Elmer “Jay”, of East Bend; plus several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Darrel Gray Miller and Hubert Eugene Miller, and one sister, Hazel Jones. A Graveside Celebration of Life Service was conducted Tuesday, January 12, at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons, with Rev. Grady Junior Trivett officiating.
