John Virgil “JV” Snow, II

Mr. John Virgil “JV” Snow II, 29, of Pfafftown, NC, passed away on the evening of Saturday, February 6, 2016, from injuries sustained during an unfortunate ATV accident while riding with friends. JV was born on February 5, 1987, in Forsyth County to Denise Bingham Rumfelt and Thomas C. Snow. He was a licensed general contractor, owner of JVS Enterprises and co-owner of Core Construction and Contracting with his cousin and life-long best friend, Tyler Merriman. To know JV was to love him. He truly radiated warmth, love and happiness. His mischievous grin was positively infectious, projecting happiness in a way that always brought out the best in people. JV’s number one passion in life was family and friends. He loved to play paintball with his friends, and eventually played paintball on the professional circuit for Baltimore Trauma. He was the true definition of a “giver” and nothing fueled our JV’s fire like the deep satisfaction and peace it gave his heart to help others. It was his strong desire to give that later drove JV to start his own company, JVS Enterprises in order to better help others in fulfilling their dreams. His kindness, constant generosity, ambitious nature, and zest for life has and will continue to be a force of inspiration to us all. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Don G. Snow and great-grandfather, John Virgil Snow, I. JV is survived by his wife of 6 months and love of his life, Sarah Carter Snow of Pfafftown, NC; his mother and step-father, Denise and Jeff Rumfelt of Clemmons, NC; his father and step-mother, Thomas and Jane Snow of Winston-Salem, NC; maternal grandparents, Thad and Mary Bingham of Clemmons, NC; paternal grandparents, Sue Konter of Flagler Beach, FL, Louise Snow of Fort McCoy, FL, and Elaine Doggett of Mount Airy, NC; his sister, Jessie Snow and niece, Kyree of Winston-Salem, NC; his brother, Kevin Rumfelt of Charleston, SC; his eldest sister, Jaymee Reavis; and an extended family of relations and all walks of life. A graveside service was held Friday, February 12, 2016, at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons with Rev. Patrick Marion officiating. Pallbearers assisting with the service were Tyler Merriman, Bryan Kaine, Jack Yeager, Kevin Rumfelt, Thad Merriman, Robbie Pettinelli, Matthew Hege and Ramon Ramirez. Harvey Hugh Hicks

July 29, 1929 – Feb. 9, 2016

Harvey Hugh Hicks, 86, of Lewisville, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Springwood Nursing Center, where he had been a patient for several years. He was born in Forsyth County to William Jennings and Mabel Reinhardt Hicks. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Clemmons, served in the US Army and a volunteer fireman in Lewisville for many years. He was compassionate and generous with time and money. For more than fifty years, he sponsored numerous children through Children’s International. Upon retiring from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company he joined the VFW Post 9010 and dedicated the next twenty years to serving in the VFW Honor Guard. Weekly, he attended multiple funerals throughout the region providing a final Military Tribute for fellow veterans. He loved new cars, airplanes, being with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by one maternal aunt, Edwina Reinhardt Martin; two paternal aunts, Jettie Hicks Hege, and Lillie Conrad Hicks, and a host of cousins and friends. The family extends thanks to the staff of Springwood Nursing Center, Hospice, and faithful friends, Kim Phillips and Devy Nanlohy. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 13 at 11 am at Vogler’s, Clemmons Chapel. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am. Burial will follow the funeral at Westlawn Memorial Gardens, Clemmons.

William Terry “Terry” Rothrock

Mr. William Terry Rothrock “Terry”, age 83, of Advance, entered into the immediate presence of the Lord, February 11, 2016. Mr. Rothrock was born March 14, 1932 in Forsyth County to Reuben Rink Rothrock and Nancy Betsy Vivian Campbell Rothrock. He graduated from Lewisville High School in 1951. Terry was a General Contractor and operated Rothrock Construction Company until retirement, building residential homes primarily in the Lewisville community. He was a member of Olivet Moravian Church and Men’s Bible Class, and assisted the Men’s Fellowship in maintenance of the church grounds. Terry was a dedicated member of Westbend Masonic Lodge #434 where he held the office of Master in1995. He was honored to mentor incoming lodge brethren and support Masonic charities. Terry was a member of the Winston-Salem Shrine Club where he was honored as Shriner of the year in 2002. He enjoyed participating in their annual Shrimp and Oyster Roast fundraiser and attending annual Shriner conventions. He transported young patients to the Shriners Hospital for Children. Terry inspired these same values in both his sons and Grandsons. Terry’s most meaningful impact was the innumerable and untold help he extended to many in need over the course of his life. He was often in the position to provide aid in times of distress. He made many friends through his wit and friendly nature. Mr. Rothrock briefly served in the United States Army where he received an honorable discharge due to an injury. Terry’s hobbies included hunting, fishing trips to the Outer Banks, vegetable gardening, and time spent at Lake Norman with his family and friends. Being at his lake home brought him much happiness and joy. Terry adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Mr. Rothrock was preceded in death by his parents and 11 brothers and sisters: Viola, John, Ethel, Carl, Zelda, Frances, Ray, Lawrence, Lynn, Harry, and Arch. He is survived by his wife Roslyn Arthur Peeler Rothrock of the home, three children, Chris Rothrock of Clemmons, Terri Rothrock Dyson of Winston-Salem, and Zack Rothrock (Camille) of Lewisville; four grandchildren, Jonathan Rothrock of Advance, Aaron Pope of Winston-Salem, Aaron Rothrock of Clemmons, and Morgan Rothrock of Lewisville, one brother, Charles, and one sister, Doris, several sisters-in-law, two step children, Jill Dillon and Brad Peeler, three step grandchildren, Zachary Dillon, Sarah Dillon, and Amy Dillon, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. A celebration of Life service will be held at Olivet Moravian Church on Thursday, February 18, 2016, at 4:00 PM with Reverend Matthew Allen presiding and Reverend Doug Rights assisting. The family will receive friends following the service. A private burial will be held at a later time. Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel is serving the family. James Kenneth Brewer

Sept. 10, 1924 – Feb. 10, 2016

James Kenneth Brewer, 91, died at Clemmons Village One on February 10, 2016. He was born in Forsyth County on September 10, 1924 to Howard and Stella Brewer. He was a lifelong member of Home Moravian Church and owner of Midway Repair Shop; and had a huge heart and helped anyone in need. Mr. Brewer spent many days devoted to his favorite hobby: fishing; he would drop a line in any water hole that he thought might have a fish. Preceding him in death was his wife, Lumbia Steelman Brewer in 1964; a sister Estelle Brewer and brother H.E. Brewer, Jr. Surviving is a daughter Marlene Cornwall and her husband Richard of Advance, NC; a grandson Ryan Cornwall (Sonja), and one great-grandson Parker also of Advance; and sister Peggy Sprinkle of Carmel, IN. Also surviving are his lifelong companion Phyllis Swicegood and her sons Mike Swicegood and Dr. Gray Swicegood and his wife Dr. Gillian Swicegood. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Salem Moravian Graveyard at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Virginia Tobiassen and the Reverend Lehoma Goode, officiating. Ruby Mae Stewart Calloway

Ruby Mae Stewart Calloway, 94, of Winston-Salem passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Forest Heights Assisted Living. She was born April 13, 1921 in Forsyth County to Charles Albert and Lillie Mae Holder Stewart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Monroe Calloway. Ruby was a member of Lewisville Baptist Church and was retired from AT&T after 42 years of service. Surviving are a niece, Anna Mehaffey (Tom); their children, Adam Mehaffey, Andy Mehaffey and Abby Kelpin; a sister, June Brown; and other nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Frank Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel with Rev. Jo Bjorling officiating. A private burial will be held at Forsyth Memorial Park. Bernie Homer Taylor

July 8, 1927 – Feb. 12, 2016

Mr. Bernie Homer Taylor, 88, of Clemmons was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 12, 2016. Bernie was born July 8, 1927 to Homer Wilson Taylor and Lora Hobson Taylor in Yadkin County. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and retired after 40 years of service with Piedmont Airlines and U.S. Air. In his retirement, he enjoyed tinkering with things around the house. Bernie was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Carrie Ayers Taylor, son, Roger Dale Taylor, sisters, Pauline Hunt and Wilma McBride, and brother, Roger Taylor. Bernie is survived by his children, Danny Taylor and wife Tamra, Rick Taylor and wife Casey, Randy Taylor and wife Kelly, and Karen James and husband Ray; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Nell Brown and Yvonne Coe; and brothers, Jimmy Taylor and Ron Taylor. A funeral service for Bernie will be held Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 2 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Travis Howard officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown.
