Edith Fishel Collins

Nov. 24, 1941 – Feb. 24, 2016

Mrs. Edith Fishel Collins, 74, of Arcadia, NC, passed away unexpectedly on February 24, 2016. Edith was born on November 24, 1941 in Forsyth Co., NC to Clayton Sanford and Agnes Grubbs Fishel. Edith was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and sister. She loved traveling across the country, working at Mrs. Hanes Moravian Cookies, fishing and spending time at the beach. Edith loved her family and her church family. She was a great cook, baker and decorator of cakes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her sister, Marie Malcom and granddaughter Cheyenne Collins. Edith is survived by her husband of 52 years Larry Collins; sons, William Collins (Carol), Bobby Collins (Lisa), Douglas Collins ( Jennifer); sister, Carolyn Bodford; grandchildren, Kirsten (Stefan), Adrienne (Grant) ,Tayler, Marissa and Bryson. A funeral service was held Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Minister Kelly Brown officiating. Interment followed at Parklawn Memorial Park. In addition to traditional flowers, memorials may be made to Carolina Bible Camp, P.O. Box 1234 Mocksville, NC 27028.

George Hatfield Ellarby

Jan. 03, 1927 – Feb. 24, 2016

Mr. George Hatfield Ellarby, 89, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston Salem, NC. George was pre-deceased by his parents, George and Elizabeth Ellarby; four brothers, Jack, Henry, Albert and Eric; and one sister, Doll Hazzard. He is survived by his loving wife, June, of almost 70 years. He was a devoted father to Fred Ellarby (Cathie) and Jennifer Sloan (Norman); a loving grandfather to Colleen Ellarby, Devin Sloan (Danielle); and step-grandfather to Susan Sloan (David Frisco), Emily Hoody-Russell (Chris Russell), and Benjamin Sloan (Emily). He was lucky enough to be the great- grandfather to Liam Christopher Sloan (3 months). He was a very special uncle to Carole Herbertson (Don), Jocelyn Miller (Bill), and Marilyn Moxam as well as several other nieces and nephews. George also had a very close friend, Mary Baker, who was like a daughter to him. Also surviving are two sisters, Gladys Marvin and Frances Wells. He started his career as a draftsman with Northern Electric in Belleville, Ontario, Canada in 1947. In 1973, he furthered his career in public relations with Northern Telecom in Boston, MA. He went on to work in Nashville, TN and retired in Raleigh, NC from Nortel in 1998. Growing up in the Salvation Army, George learned how to play all the brass instruments, including the tuba and enjoyed singing for many years with the men’s choir. All of the children in the family fondly remember George for creating his own words to every song, customizing them to include their names. He was always whistling or singing. Fred and Jenny never remember a quiet car ride! A memorial service was held Friday, February 26, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Inurnment will follow in Canada. Patricia “Patti” Cohen Neal

Oct. 16, 1936 – Feb. 23, 2016

Patricia “Patti” Cohen Neal, was born to Harry and Ruth Cohen in Charleston, WV. She is preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Jack Allen Neal and a stepson, Jack Neal, Jr. She passed on to be with the Lord peacefully with family by her side. She was survived by three children: Robin Gonzales (Al), Doug Neal, Kelly Mainello (Joe) and 2 stepdaughters, Sylvia Hill (Wayne) and Cynthia Summers. She had 5 grandchildren, Ross Dorsey, Tamara Hazlett (Scott), Tara Burnette (Chris), Heather Jones (Tommy), Brittany Neal and 6 step-grandchildren: Alicia Goots (Tony), Johnnie Hill (Chavonne),Bobbysue Poole, Angi Smith (Terry), Christina Neal and Adam Summers (Mandy). She had 8 great grandchildren. She was a loving Mother and Grandmother and was a woman of steadfast faith. She loved music and wrote songs, poems & many letters of encouragement. She had artistic abilities in cake decorating, flower arranging and painting. She especially loved animals and volunteered at the Humane Society. A memorial service was held in her honor at River Oaks Community Church in Clemmons, NC on Saturday, 2/27/16. Leo Schulz

Leo Schulz, 80, passed away on Sunday, February 14th at home after battling cancer. Leo was born in 1935 in Europe. He immigrated to America in 1950 with his mother (Louise) & brother (John). He married Sally in 1969 and they returned to Europe to live and travel extensively. In 1975 they returned to the US and settled in the Winston-Salem area. For 40 years he was the Owner and President of Top Art, a wholesale and retail art gallery that specialized in all types of art, mirrors and custom framing services. Leo is survived by his wife Sally, of 46 years, his son Marcus (38) of Nashville, Tennessee, his daughter-in-law, Heather (35) & countless close friends. Leo was a lover of animals, especially dogs. He will be greatly missed forever and very fondly remembered. Rose Romer

Rose Romer, 92 of Clemmons passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at her home after bravely battling ovarian cancer. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alex Romer, her parents and two sisters. She is survived by two devoted daughters Jill Fox of Washington, DC, and Jan Holbrook and husband Richard of Winston Salem; one sister and numerous nieces and nephews. Rose was a loving wife, mother and friend. She participated in her Circle at Clemmons Moravian Church and volunteered at the Clemmons Food Pantry. The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this sad time. She will have a private burial service at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC, where her husband is buried. Spurgeon E. Stroud

Spurgeon E. Stroud, 93, formerly of 1025 Claremont Avenue passed away Monday February 22, 2016 at Regency Care of Clemmons. He was a native of Winston-Salem and a graduate of Winston Salem Teachers College (Winston Salem State University). Mr. Stroud was self employed as an accountant. He was of the Methodist faith. He is survived by three sisters, Erline S. Dennis of High Point, NC, Sara S. Elliott and Dorothy Lee Stroud both of Winston-Salem, NC; three nieces, three nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30am in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 11:30 am at the funeral home.
