Dr. Paul Douglas Nifong

Dr. Paul Douglas Nifong, of Clemmons passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016. He was born Oct 7, 1925 in Davidson County, to Henry Cleveland and Pearl Miller Nifong. He was the 7th of 9 children. He spent the early years of his life cultivating the soil, and helping his brother Henry build a dairy herd. Dr. Nifong graduated from Arcadia High School, UNC- Chapel Hill, and UNC Dental School. Between his under graduate degree and Dental degree; he served 5 years in the US Air Force during the Korean War; of which one year was in Korea. He was a pilot who loved to fly, making daily flights from Tokyo to Korea. He was in a reserve 464th Tactical Unit, flying C-46’s carrying mail, cargo, soldiers on R&R, evacuating dead and wounded back to Tokyo. He was transferred to C-119’s and trained with the 82nd Airborne at Ft. Bragg. After returning from the Air Force he was accepted to UNC Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, graduating in 1959. In 1960 he returned to Clemmons where he and his brother, Frank M. Nifong, MD opened their private practices. They served the community together for 19 years. In 1978, he and his son, Paul D. Nifong, Jr. built a new office beside the old one and practiced dentistry together for 28 years. He retired after 47 years at the age of 81. He also was President of the Forsyth County Dental Society in 1982. Paul was a member of Clemmons Moravian Church where he served as Superintendent of Sunday School in the early 60’s. He taught junior and senior high classes, he served on two building committees, one for the Sanctuary, and one for the Fellowship Hall. He was church Treasurer for 39 years. He painted the outside of the church in 1962-63, and replaced all broken windowpanes. He played in the band for many years. He said many times that he was fortunate to have Bishop Burton Rights as his gentle mentor for 36 years while at Clemmons. He served on the Board of World Mission of the Moravian Church for 12 years, 6 of those years he was Vice-Chair of the Mission Board. He also served on the Mission Society of the Moravian Church, South. He was responsible for setting up a Dental Clinic in Ahuas, Honduras, where natives would walk from miles around to seek relief from dental pain. He also loved to support Samaritan Ministries, Crisis Control and Sunnyside Ministry. He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Marie, and 2 children, Dr. Paul Nifong, Jr. and wife Melissa, Gary Nifong and wife Margaret, 1 deceased child, Lisa Nifong Curry; also 5 grandchildren, Alex Nifong, Patrick Nifong, Nathaniel Nifong, Ashley Nifong, and Molly Nifong, and 1 surviving sister, Vearl Johnson of Garner, NC. A funeral service was held Monday, May 9, 2016 at Clemmons Moravian Church with Rev. Ray Burke officiating. Interment followed in the church graveyard. The family received friends Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. Memorials may be made to Clemmons Moravian Church Building Fund. Eric “Little E” Norris

Eric “Little E” Norris, 24, died April 29, 2016. Graveside Funeral Services celebrating his life were held Saturday May 7, 2016 at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family visited with friends Saturday at First Christian Church in Kernersville. A native of Forsyth County, Eric was the son of Lesa Gay Marine and Eric Chester Norris. He was a graduate of West Forsyth High School Class of “09. Eric had worked at AT&T and currently was working with Flow Honda in Winston-Salem. Eric was an avid hunter, played golf, loved to fish, riding motorcycles, and always was a big “goofball” as he enjoyed life. He was truly a loving son and brother and will be dearly missed. Survivors include his mother Lesa Marine of Clemmons; father Eric Norris of Lakeland, Florida; sister Hollie Norris of the home; maternal grandmother Geraldine Parnell and Ron of Clemmons; paternal grandmother Georgia Temples and Doug of Kernersville; paternal grandfather Chester Norris of Kernersville; and numerous extended family and friends. Betty Mae Parrish Doub

Feb. 11, 1930 – May 1, 2016

Betty Mae Parrish Doub, went home Sunday. She was a vibrant member of the community. Member of Agape Faith Church in Clemmons NC serving in several capacities. Born in Forsyth County February 11, 1930 to Weldon and Nellie Parrish. Survived by a sister, Wanda Linell and husband Ren Linell of Tennessee, three daughters; Vicky Young and husband Dennis of Winston-Salem, NC, Debbi Nance and husband Steve of Pana, Illinois and Darla “Sam” Tuttle of Pfafftown, NC. Stepchildren Jesse “Buck” Doub and wife, Kelly Doub of Georgia and Mary “Petee” Kirkus and husband Fran of Love Valley, NC. 10 grandchildren: Cindy Lee, Robert Young, Brian Young, Timothy Young, William “Trey” Jones, Michelle “Shelly” Jones, Tiffany Neu, Emma Doub, Noah Doub and Camie Sousa. 11 Great grandchildren. Special mentions, a niece; Sherry Neu of Ohio and a daughter in law Sandy Evans of Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse Tise Doub of Pfafftown, Her son Corporal Douglas Wayne Lee USMC, a brother, Odell Parrish and two sisters; Shelby Hubbard and Virginia Parrish. Receiving family and friends in the home; 4325 Shadi Green Lane in Pfafftown, NC from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday May 7th. Donna Ray Schroyer

Nov. 22, 1940 – April 18, 2016

Mrs. Donna Ray Schroyer, 75, of Winston Salem passed away April 18th 2016. She was preceded in death by two sisters Gayle Hands and Elaine Dean both of Maryland. She is survived by her husband Melvin T Schroyer Sr, and son Tommy Schroyer and wife Denise. Two sisters, Alice Strader of Knightdale N.C and Mary J Armstrong of Chesapeake Va. One granddaughter Candice Harris and husband Matt and Five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, Also a very special aunt Arlene Netzer of Silver Springs Maryland. She was retired from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and a member of Pine Grove United Methodist church. A memorial service will be held Saturday May 14th at Pine Grove United Methodist church at 2:00 pm. Flowers or memorial donations can be sent to Pine Grove United Methodist church.
