Sandy Neese Cooke

Sandy Neese Cooke, 63, passed away peacefully in her home Thursday, March 16, after a hard battle with cancer. Born in Columbia, SC, Sandy was the fourth of five daughters born to the late Harry Yates and Johnnie Sowell Neese. A graduate of Airport HS and the University of South Carolina, Sandy had been a resident of Clemmons since 1993. Sandy brought a passion for education into her classroom every day for 34 years. She began her career at Claude A. Taylor Elementary in Lexington, SC. and retired in 2016 from Walkertown Elementary School in Forsyth County, NC. Her family, friends, former students and their parents will remember her for her tireless devotion and love for each and every child she impacted both inside and outside of the classroom. Sandy will be forever remembered for her compassion, fighting spirit, empathy, and her witty sense of humor. Sandy’s faith in God was very important to her and impacted her decisions in life. She was most recently a member of River Oaks Community Church in Clemmons. Preceded in death by her parents, Sandy is survived by her sons Jonathan Michael Cooke, Jordan Patrick Cooke, and her four sisters. Memorial services were held Saturday at Salem Funeral Home.

Clyde Andrew Long, Jr.

Mr. Clyde Andrew Long Jr., 83, passed peacefully on Sunday March 12, 2017. He passed promptly at 7 pm surrounded and comforted by his beloved family; leaving a beautiful sunset in his wake that rang true to the saying “red sky at night, sailor’s delight.” Clyde was born on September 11, 1933, to the late Clyde Long Sr. and Gwendolyn Lentz Long. He was born and raised in Winston-Salem, and was a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School. Clyde attended Davidson College before entering the Army, where he served in Germany from 1954 to 1956. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 30 years in the Engineering Department. He was dedicated to his family, loved boating, fishing, good food, and Triple S Marina at Atlantic Beach, N.C. He was also a devout man of faith who never left a Sunday service unattended or let a day pass without reading his Bible. Surviving are his wife, Joyce; sister-in-law, Julie Stoakley (husband Lou); brother-in-law, Dick Petree (wife Wanda); nieces and nephews, Lou Ann Stoakley, Lori Barr (husband Todd), Lisa McSwain (husband Trey), Kadie Dooley (husband Dan), Nick Petree (wife Claire); and great nieces and nephews, Drew Lael, Daniel Lael, Kailey McSwain, Ryan McSwain, Evan Barr, and Kadan Dooley. A funeral service was held on Friday, March 17, 2017, at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Marilyn L. Weiler and Rev. S. Neill Shaw officiating. Interment followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family would like to extend their gratitude for the love and support shown by the entire staff of Bermuda Commons and Kate B. Anderson, James Neil

June 21, 1935 – March 19, 2017

MOCKSVILLE — Mr. James Neil Anderson, 81, died Sunday, March 19, 2017. Jim was born June 21, 1935, to J. Millard and Sarah A. Anderson. He taught English for over 35 years, with the most of them spent at West Forsyth in Clemmons. Jim was very talented in music and helped start the musical dramas at West Forsyth. He played piano at Center Methodist Church for over 40 years, loved singing with the choir at First Methodist in Mocksville and played for numerous weddings and funerals. Jim never married but touched the lives of countless young people. He is survived by his sister, Alice Barnette (Mike); niece, Sabrina Conrad (John); nephew, Greg Barnette (Amanda); great-nephews, Luke, David, Bristol, Marshall and Broc; great-nieces, Mattie and Bella; great-great-niece, Scarlett; and numerous cousins. The celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 23, at Center United Methodist Church, 1857 US Hwy 64 W, Mocksville. Coffey, James Howard

Nov. 18, 1937 – Mar. 18, 2017

James Howard Coffey, 79, died peacefully on March 18, 2017 in his home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Watauga County, NC and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Coffey worked as a surveyor for John G. Baine Civil Engineering and retired from Landmark Builders in 2006 as VP of Construction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and jigsaw puzzles. Preceding him in death were his parents, Glenn and Reba Jones Coffey; daughter, Janet Lee Coffey; sister-in-law, Joyce Coffey and a brother-in-law, Ted Williams. Surviving are his loving wife and best friend of 59 years, Janice Lucille Trivette Coffey; daughter, Patricia Hurst (Jim) of Bardstown, KY; son, Mark Coffey (Tammy) of Clemmons, NC; brothers, Bill Coffey (Sandy) and Joe Coffey; sisters, Maxine McGuire (Tom) and Lorene Williams; grandchildren, Jessica Talley, Janet Lee Coffey, Rebecca Hurst, and Rachel Hurst; also surviving are several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel with Mr. Joby Poteat officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
