Myrtle Lois Watkins

Myrtle Lois Watkins, 81, a lifelong resident of Lewisville entered into eternal rest Tuesday April 11, 2017. She was born Feb. 20, 1936 in Forsyth County to Walter and Erma T. Watkins. Miss Watkins graduated from Gardener Webb Junior College and Carson Newman University. She was a dedicated school teacher, teaching first grade at Old Richmond Elementary School. With a passion for music, she served as church organist for several area churches; and remained an active member of Unity Moravian Church for as long as her health permitted. Miss Watkins enjoyed cultivating daylilies for her own yard as well as sharing them with others. Most of all, she was passionate about her many cats, lovingly providing for all their needs. She was preceded in death her parents and is survived by many cousins. A graveside service was held Friday, April 14, 2017 at Forsyth Memorial Park with Rev. Barry Foster and Rev. Dr. Bill McElveen officiating. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Ralph Lewis Sneed

Mr. Ralph Lewis Sneed, 85, of Clemmons, passed away on April 10, 2017 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Ralph was born in Lexington, NC to Elliott Reid and Lucy Koontz Sneed. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church for the past 18 years where he was very active. Mr. Sneed was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in the Korean Conflict. Ralph retired from Coble Dairy in data .processing. He enjoyed watching John Wayne in his western movies. He loved playing golf and watching it on TV. He also enjoyed listening to gospel music, loved watching sports and pulling for Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Emily Workman. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Willie Sneed; daughters, Deborah S. Cohn and husband Jim of Advance; Susan S. Workman and husband Jimmy of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Matthew Berry, Charity Calandrino and husband Tim, Travis Workman and wife Laura, Matthew Cohn, Kristin Cardwell and husband Tanner; five great grandchildren, Ann Workman, Elizabeth Cohn, Ava Cohn, Charlotte Cardwell and Walter Cardwell. A funeral service was conducted Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Jim Cohn officiating. Interment followrf at Lexington City Cemetery. Peggy Jarvis Guillan

Mrs. Peggy Jarvis Guillan, 92, of Clemmons, passed Sunday, April 9, 2017. She was born October 13, 1924 in Albany, GA to Myrtle Mae Kolbie Jarvis and James Harmer Jarvis. Mrs. Guillan was a longtime member of Unity Moravian Church and volunteered for 16 years at the Childrens’ Hospital of Orange County, California. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Richard Meade Guillan. Surviving are three daughters, Becky Guillan, Candi Cape and Janis Carey; five grandchildren, Shannon Parks, Stacey Manley, Jeff Cape, Jr., Daniel Cape and Natalie Carey; six great grandchildren; one sister, Sue Taylor of Albany, GA and a cousin, Madie Riley of West Jefferson, NC. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Unity Moravian Church with Pastor Barry Foster officiating. Interment will follow in the church graveyard. Robert Brantley Lowman

Mr. Robert Brantley Lowman, aged 94 years, 6 months, and 4 days, of Lewisville, passed away Saturday April 8, 2017. Robert was born October 4, 1922 in Davidson County, NC to John Brantley Lowman and Hallie Medlin Lowman. At the age of 2, his aunt Jenny Barnes took him to Sunday school in a Model-T Ford and this began the start of his journey in the Christian faith. He last attended school in 1935, attending South Linwood, Thomasville and Lexington Schools. He began work in 1936 and then was laid off for being too young when the Social Security program began in 1937. In 1939, Robert began working at Thomasville Chair Factory and in 1942, started at Wall Box Company then Jewel Furniture for 9 years. In 1949, he worked at B.F. Huntley, Southside Unique Furniture and Bassett Sack Company. That same year he married Frances Butner on October 22. On April 22, 1952, Robert started at Hanes Knitting on Stratford Road in Winston-Salem. He retired from there in June of 1985. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Butner Lowman, and siblings, John Cletus Loman, Paul Lowman, Jesse Herman Loman, Minnie Elizabeth Lowman Spaul Frost, Ray “Pete” Lowman, and Evelyn Louella Lowman Talley, on one niece, Pat Loman. Robert is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Sue Lowman Stewart and husband Michael Charles and Bonnie Jean Lowman; brother, Willie Lee Lowman, Sr. and wife Betty Jo; sister in law, Wanda Lowman (Paul), and several nieces and nephews. The family received friends Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Interment followed the visitation at Grace Baptist Church Cemetery, Lewisville. Clydene Sprinkle Sparks

Mrs. Clydene Sprinkle Sparks, age 72 of Mocksville, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017. She was born October 25, 1944 in Forsyth County to the late Clyde Edward Sprinkle and Lula Hazel Stokes Sprinkle. Mrs. Sparks is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John Wayne Sparks. Surviving are three daughters, Renee Sparks Inman (Donald); Kristin Sparks (Chris) and Sherri Sparks; two grandchildren, Joseph Sparks (Brittney) and Adam Jones; two great grandchildren, Hayden Jones and Aubree Sparks; one sister, Barbara Moser and one brother-in-law, Wilson Sparks (Kathy) and two nieces, Kelly Sellers and Kim Sellers and one nephew Brian Sellers. A funeral service was conducted Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Union Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Christopher Burcham. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Gary Lee Wright

Mr. Gary Lee Wright, 76, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, April 15, 2017; coinciding with his 29th wedding anniversary. Gary was born on October 10, 1940, in Forsyth County to the Aubrey Lee and Ruth Johnson Wright. He retired from R.J. Reynolds after many years of faithful service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved step-son, Joe Hawkins, Jr. He was a loving and Christian husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Surviving are his loving wife, Marylyn Wright; two step-children, Tonya Lanier (husband Bobby) and Jonathan Hawkins (wife Christine); three grandchildren, Jennifer McCabe (husband Adam), Makayla Holmes, and Nathan Hawkins; and two great-grandchildren, Hayden McCabe and Kara McCabe. Also left to cherish his memory are one sister, Barbara Wright Peeples; one nieces, Jill Rauso (husband Tom); and great nephew, Christian Glazewski. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Harmony Grove United Methodist Church, 5041 Styers Ferry Road, Lewisville, NC 27023.
