To the Editor:

I would like to thank Clemmons Fire Chief Jerry Brooks, Forsyth Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. G. Shutt, Sgt. G.R. Goodrich, Deputy J.M. Boysel and all of the others who were involved in the community outreach that was performed on Friday December 1, with the escort of the Keating Family to Brenner’s Childrens Hospital. Abby Keating, 29 months young, was headed for her fourth, and God willing, her final cancer treatment. The incredible smile on her face as she was riding towards the hospital says it all. You all made this beautiful child feel the warmth and love of our community as we all prayed and rallied around this brave and strong little girl. Please share my thanks to all of the other folks who were involved in making Abby Keating happy during her darkest days.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.

We would like to say thank you once again to all who were involved in the Christmas Treasure Sale at Clemmons Moravian Church on Saturday, December 2. It was a wonderful success! We appreciated all the support from the Clemmons community and beyond. This year we made $3,560. In thanksgiving for all our blessings and considering the great need this year, we are donating $2,000 to the Clemmons Food Pantry.

Many thanks to all who made this possible!

Christmas treasures are gently used items that are not longer use, but too good to just throw away and so are just taking up space in your attic or garage. Let us help you with that! As you put your Christmas decorations away this year, label a box for the 2018 sale. It is usually the first Saturday in December each year and we accept donated items each day the week before. Watch for it!

Christmas Treasures

To the Editor:

Many Americans have become disillusioned by the lack of progress and the unseemly revelations about politicians, mostly in Washington, but also at the state level. However, North Carolinians were fortunate last year to elect an honest and hard-working man to the position of State Treasurer, Dale Folwell. Some examples of his success on our behalf include: Saving $60 million in yearly investment fees by cutting under-performing money managers and renegotiating with others. (This will be a savings of $250 million for his four year term.) Saving $133 million in debt service costs by refinancing $1 billion in state bonds. Saving tens of millions on State Health Plan costs by renegotiating contracts, eliminating underutilized programs and reducing administrative expenses. North Carolina’s pension assets have grown to their highest level ever. Prior to Dale taking office it took 40 days to process a state retirement application. Today it takes just 5 days. For 138 years the office of Treasurer was run by the opposition party. Dale’s record shows what can be accomplished when an elected official puts the people’s interests ahead of politics and personal gain.
