J.S. Pulliam’s Hot Dogs and Barbecue was started more than 100 years ago in 1910, located in Winston-Salem. A few decades after opening, a young boy by the name of Ed Flynt began his career as a curb-hop for the restaurant. The eatery would later become known as “the best hot dog in the South,” serving hot dogs and homemade ice cream to their patrons. “Big Ed” enjoyed his time working there, and began to learn their way of business, which stood upon two pillars: excellent food, and friendly service. He loved his work so much that he remained with the restaurant for many years to come.

When the owners decided to sell the business, Flynt became the new owner and operator of Pulliam’s Hot Dogs. He turned this established restaurant into a family business, and continued to bolster the reputation by striving to be a local sanctuary for gossip, friends, and good old-fashioned food. As time passed, Ed began to collect things that he thought were interesting and attractive. He bought, sold, traded, and collected a variety of antiques for the rest of his life. By that time his son, Mark Flynt, had already taken hold in the business. Mark was doing everything possible to preserve the heritage of the now family owned and operated business, something that he still does as he continues to run the business on a day-to-day basis. Mark and his father “Big Ed” aligned on many things, especially their interest in the world of rare collectibles and antiques.

Now, the time has come for Mark to liquidate the extensive collection of rare and important antiques he and his father attained throughout the years. On June 9 at 10 a.m., Leinbach Auction and Realty, LLC will be liquidating their collection that was built over the last five or more decades on-site at Pulliam’s Hot Dogs. This collection includes unique and exquisite memorabilia that is tied to the businesses and industries of North Carolina, more specifically, Winston-Salem and the Piedmont Triad. This absolute auction sale is essentially a time capsule, taking patrons back to the 1940s and ’50s. The sale consists of  thousands of soda bottles and crates, including vintage Coca-Cola products that are extremely rare in their present, nearly perfect condition. Also for sale are advertising memorabilia that dates back over 50 years and is still in the original packaging and never exposed to the elements; Army and Navy equipment that was issued for service in the mid 1940s during World War II; signs, clocks, tobacco and alcohol relics; tools; dairy farm collectibles; coin-operated vending and game machines, and so much more.

This sale will not only provide the attendants of the auction with knowledge and exposure to the world of the 20^th century, but also a rare opportunity to experience these goods in such condition that is surreal and unheard of.
