Unique works of art — individually carved woodcarvings by members of the Triad Woodcarvers of Winston-Salem are on public display at Clemmons Public Library. Triad Woodcarvers partnered with the library to make these available for the enjoyment of the public and to promote the art of woodcarving.

Thirty carvings are on display and represent various styles including chip carving, carving in the round, power carving and stylized carving. Carvings include Santas, birds, caricatures, animals and Christmas ornaments, among others. Woods include basswood, butternut, cotton wood bark and many hardwoods. The carvings display will continue until the end of this month.

The Triad Woodcarvers is a non-profit organization which was founded in 2009. The club consists of 29 carvers of varying skill levels. The club welcomes the opportunity to display, teach, exhibit and demonstrate woodcarving at libraries, festivals, schools, clubs and organizations in effort to promote the art of woodcarving.

The club is very focused in giving back to the community. In 2017, the club sponsored a Christmas Tree ornament project, and displayed a 7 1/2-foot Christmas tree with more than 200 ornaments at Sawtooth School for Visual Arts. Ornaments were sold with over $5,500 being raised — of which 50 percent of the club’s profits were donated to Sawtooth’s Youth Scholarship Program to aid youth in the area.  This project is being repeated again this year — again to assist the youth scholarship. The club continues to seek out community projects which help the community and promotes woodcarving.

Interested in learning to carve? Would you like to carve a Christmas ornament for  your family and have fun in the process? The club can teach you. You can learn by attending and joining the club at monthly meetings. The club meets monthly on the first Monday of the month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Klingspors Woodworking Shop at Hanes Mall Boulevard. The club is currently considering more frequent carving sessions for the future.
