Couriering the area this week in 1969 – The Clemmons Jaycees were planning to hold an election to select an honorary mayor to serve Clemmons from July 1969 to July 1970.
Miss Robin Wood, five-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Wood of Clemmons, was the second place winner in the Little Miss Parkway Beauty Pageant held at the Parkway Plaza Shopping Center in Winston-Salem.
Mark M. Padgett, son of Mrs. Helen K. Padgett, was awarded a Yale University scholarship and financial assistance to attend Yale. Mark was a honor graduate (1969) of West Forsyth High School.
Officers for the Clemmons Volunteer Fire Department were held at the community meeting. The officers elected were – Joe Lawrence, president; Bill Wall, vice president; Jack Cumby, secretary and Jack Holder, treasurer.
Richard Robertson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Robertson of Clemmons, was attending Boys’ State at Wake Forest University. He was a rising senior at West Forsyth High School.
Jerry L. Howell, of Clemmons, made the President’s List for the spring session at Forsyth Technical Institute.
Ten-year-old Tad McClamrock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom McClamrock, sold the most candy during the fund raising project for Southwest Forsyth Little League. This was his second consecutive year of selling the most candy.
Dan Mitchell Pearce, of Clemmons, was awarded a Master of Fine Arts degree from UNC-Greensboro. Pearce was an art teacher at Southwest Junior High School.
Michael W. Beauchamp received an undergraduate degree from UNC-Greensboro.
Miss Rebecca Jane Burwell, of Lewisville, graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill.
Miss Rhonda Joyner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ray Joyner of Lewisville, was awarded a $25,000 savings bond for the piano composition, which she entered in the creative music completion sponsored by the Winston-Salem Sertoma Club.
The congregation of Shiloh Evangelical Lutheran at Lewisville honored the new pastoral couple, the Rev. and Mrs. James M. Radcliffe, at a reception in the educational building of the Church.
Member of the Clemmons Community 4-H Club attended the Northwestern District Activity Day at Watauga Height School in Boone, Three members gave demonstrations: Stanley Rash, 12 years old and son of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Rash, Jr, won a blue ribbon in Public Speaking; Carol Myers, 12 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude J. Myers, won a red ribbon on her Junior Dairy Foods demonstration and Debbie Clifton, 12 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Clifton, won a white ribbon on her Junior Fruit and Vegetable Use demonstration.
Members of the Lewisville Tigers Baseball Team were: Ricky Smith, Timmy Fearrington, Mark Herman, Billy Martin, Gray Hauser, Melvin Anthony, Tommy Elliott, Keith Doub, Ronnie Flynt, John Jones, Freddie Franklin, Mark Pegram, David Maynard, Dwight Barringer and Kenny Ridgill. The team was coached by Mahlan Barringer and manager Kermit Doub.
