Couriering Clemmons — What was happening in 1962

Couriering the area this week in 1962 – Anna Lena Cooper, of Clemmons, attended the Leadership Training Workshop of the Council of Women’s Organizations held at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Gaye Fulton, Jerri Jones, Nancy Vest, Richard McCulston and Jack Snow attended the Junior Conference at Laurel Ridge Moravian Conference Ground near Laurel Springs.

The Clemmons Horse Show was held at the Clemmons School. There were shows at 12:30 and 7:30 pm. Mrs. Don Snyder, of Clemmons, was secretary and Miss Murrianne Linker, also of Clemmons, was in charge of the Ribbon Marshalls.

Miss Judi Dean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Milton Dean of Winston-Salem and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Gordon of Clemmons, received a gold cup for being first runner-up in the annual Pine Brook Country Club Beauty Contest held at the club.

The Clemmons 4-H club went to Lake Hide-away for a picnic and a swim. Members of the club that attended were: Sylvia Keaton, Donna Rash, Libby Rash, Phyllis Leagans, Rebecca Brewer, Mark Leagans, Richard Poindexter, Teresa Dunn, Gene Poindexter, Deith Dunn, Charles Craven, David Craven and Ellen and Donald Cline. The adults that attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Rash, Mrs. Calvin Petticord, Charles Dunn and Mrs. B. Poindexter.

A talent show was held in the Lewisville Gym. The following boys and girls who were in the program were: Cheryl Spainhour, Debbie Harding, Elsie Ingram, Louis Trivette, Kay Harding, Sandra Miller, Susan Pratt, Gay Lynn Rock, Ann Ingram, Beverly Surface, Georgann Rock, Jerri Harding, Thelma Surface and Shelvia Surface.

The membership of the Clemmons Presbyterian Church honored their new pastor and his wife, the Rev. and Mrs. Thomas Bagnal and family at a reception at the Clemmons Civic Club building. Approximately 165 persons from Clemmons and away attended the event.

A Baptism Service was held at Immanuel Baptist Church in Clemmons with the Rev. O. C. Clampitt officiating. Wade Wishon led the group in singing. Those Baptized were: Judy Pegram, Kaye Harper, Nada Wishon, Ann Pegram, Linda Binkley, Nancy Ellis, Wanda Farrington, Rachel Harper, Kathryn Dull, Michael Smith, Michael Stewart, James Myers and Clarence Dull.

Sixty-five from the Clemmons Summer Recreation Group took instructional swimming. Tournaments in ping pong, horseshoe and badminton began with double elimination. The winner of these three games earned the right to participate in the County Field Day.

All three baseball teams resumed to their normal schedules, Clemmons, Lewisville and South Fork, following a week off for the 4th of July.
