On July 4, a Veterans Breakfast Club that meets regularly at the K&W Cafeteria on Healy Drive honored four WWII veterans. Three of them, Sam Kennedy, James Stanner and John Yarbrough, are Marines, and Neal Cooke served in the Army; all of them were in the Pacific campaign.

Friendship and the camaraderie of a regular group meeting spurs the roughly 30-member group to meet and share a meal and stories of their past. Many of the members received Purple Hearts, and all served with honor. The last two WWII deceased members were Charles Adam Conrad of Lewisville and William Dodson Smith, who started the club.
