WINSTON-SALEM — Athena’s Run for GYN Cancers will take place on Sept. 8 during Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month. This event is presented annually by Kilpatrick Townsend at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons.

Athena’s Run combines a scenic 5K run with a Warriors for Wellness Expo to raise awareness and support for the fight against gynecologic cancers. This year, the Expo will feature over 20 local organizations and businesses offering a variety of fun-filled activities and services.

Proceeds from Athena’s Run benefit the Gynecologic Cancer Fund at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. Since its inaugural event in 2010, Athena’s Run for GYN Cancers has raised more than $500,000. Funds are used locally and nationally to support education and advocacy for gynecologic cancers; care of women to prevent, detect and treat gynecologic cancers; and research efforts for gynecologic cancer care and cure.

“For far too long, women affected by gynecologic cancers have been overlooked,” said Robin Atkinson, GYN Oncology nurse navigator at Novant Health. “Not only does Athena’s Run raise funds for gynecologic cancer care, education and research, more importantly it creates a strong community of hope and support.”
