Kaplan to host free Community Playdate today

Kaplan Early Learning Company will host a free Community Playdate on Thursday, Aug. 30, from 6-8 p.m. at its corporate headquarters in Lewisville to celebrate 50 years in business and in the community. The event is free and open to the public and will feature over 20 local vendors including A Higher Bounce (bounce house and slide), Birthday Party Rockstar (face paint and balloon art), Reserving Royalty (professional children entertainers), Lewisville Fire Department, Winston-Salem Police Department, Sunset Slush Italian Ice, Forsyth County Public Libraries, Hip Chics Boutique, Lowes Foods, Chick-fil-A and more.

Clemmons Branch Library

Library closing: All Forsyth County Public Library locations will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3, for Labor Day.

Children’s story times note:

There will be no children’s story times in the month of August. They will resume as normal in September.

Adult programs:

Book Lovers’ Club: The Clemmons Branch Library’s Book Lovers’ Club meets every first Monday of the month (unless the date falls on a holiday). Join this dynamic group for a great discussion of a selected title. Free and open to the public. The next meeting will be on Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion of “Before We Were Yours” by Lisa Wingate..

Clemmons Cookin’ Club: If you enjoy cooking, come join the Clemmons Cookin’ Club. The club meets every month on the third Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. in the auditorium at the Clemmons Branch Library. Come in and choose a recipe from a pre-selected book and a copy will be made for you. Bring in the finished dish on the day of the meeting to share with other members. Expand your palate by tasting all the recipes, connect with people who enjoy cooking, and discuss the recipes. Call 703-2920 if you have questions. It will last about one hour. Our next meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the auditorium at 3554 Clemmons Road, and will feature mystery ingredients. Visit or call the library for more information.

West Forsyth Class of 1983 reunion

The West Forsyth Class of 1983 is holding a reunion on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Village Square Tap House starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person prior to Sept. 30 and $25 per person after. Lewisville Historical Society meeting

Lewisville Historical Society invites the public to the Lewisville Historical Society meeting on Monday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m. to enjoy a concert by Laura Ingram Semilian. She will sing songs of the 1800s, including the eras of the Gold Rush, Frontier, and the Civil War. Semilian has an operatic voice and has been performing for several years. She dresses in the costume of the era. Concert will be at the pavilion at the Lewisville Town Square (Shallowford Square) at 6555 Shallowford Road Lewisville. Call 336-766-5842 for more information. Good Neighbor Port-a-Pit Barbecue

Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Advance will be having its annual Good Neighbor Port-a-Pit Barbecue on Friday, Sept., 28 at the church, located at 321 Redland Road in Advance, beside Nature’s Way on 801 S. and Steelman’s Ace Hardware on Hwy. 158. Pre-sold lunch orders may be picked up between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the Family Life Center at the church. The 801 site will be open from 11 a.m. until sold out with sandwiches, plates and by the pound. Barbecue sandwiches are available beginning at 11 a.m. at Ace Hardware on Hwy. 158. Free delivery is available for orders of four or more. Supper is from 4–7 p.m. at the church. Plates will include ½ port-a-pit chicken or barbecue, slaw, baked beans, roll and dessert. The cost for lunch or dinner will be a donation of $10 per plate, $5 per sandwich or $15 per pound (includes barbecue with four buns and pint of slaw). Proceeds from this barbecue assist people in our community. Please come out and enjoy great food and support a worthwhile cause.

Community Labor Day picnic

There will be a Community Labor Day Picnic on Monday, Sept. 3, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church of Clemmons at 5280 Hampton Road. Everyone is invited.

 

Victory on the Frontline Church

We serve coffee, juice and pastries every Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m. Children’s and adult Sunday School starts at 10 a.m. 

Worship service with Pastor Michael Duffield begins at 11 a.m. Music preformed by Lonnie & Faye Maines and the Victory Singers. Wednesday evening is our “Just As I Am” casual and family service. Dinner is served at 6:20 p.m. followed by a Bible service led by Pastor Mike from 7-7:45 p.m. All people of Christian faith are encouraged to attend. Kiwanis Club

The Clemmons Kiwanis Club meets at the Trinity Elms Health & Rehab facility at 7449 Fair Oaks Dr. in Clemmons. The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. Meeting lasts one hour. Call 703- 2921 for any other information.

 

Clemmons Civic Club

Clemmons Civic Club, one of the areas oldest community organizations, is now open to both men and women interested in serving the Clemmons community. Meeting are held in the civic club building on Middlebrook Drive the fourth Thursday of the month beginning with dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by an informative program.  Your first meal is complimentary.  RSVP to Garland Layton, president at 336-462-6074.

Lewisville American Legion Post 522

Join a community post that supports our veterans and the town of Lewisville. Responsible for the veteran’s memorial and Memorial Day event at the Shallowford Square in Lewisville. Post also assists in veteran’s funerals. Meets every first Thursday at 7:30 p.m. At the G. Galloway Reynolds Community Center directly behind Lewisville Library. Clemmons Food Pantry

The Clemmons Food Pantry, now located at 2585 Old Glory Road, Suite 109, Clemmons, is open Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. People may receive services or drop off donations at these times. www.clemmonsfoodpantry.org

 

Cross Stitching at Shiloh Lutheran

If you enjoy needle crafting, knit, cross-stitch, crochet and non-sewing blanket projects, consider joining the Busy Hands Group, every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Located at Shiloh Lutheran Church fellowship hall, 703 Lewisville-Vienna Rd, Lewisville, NC 27023. Items donated to sick, needy and shut-ins.

Tanglewood Pool

The Peter S. Brunstetter Aquatic Center at Tanglewood Park is open for the season. The aquatic center features a winding tubing river, two slides, splash pad with water features and extended deck space. There is also a children’s pool area with a tumble bucket, raindrop, starburst and lemon drops. The lap pool area includes two diving boards and two water slides.

Season hours are: Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Daily rates are: Children two years and under — free; seniors (55+) and children 3-5 years —$5 per swimmer (weekdays, excluding holidays), $6 per swimmer (weekends and holidays); all others — $6 per swimmer (weekdays, excluding holidays), $7 per swimmer (weekends and holidays)

Season passes are: family (immediate household, children 18 years and under, 5 person maximum, includes park entrance sticker) — $400; seniors (55+) and children 3-5 years — $100; all others — $150.
