Couriering the area this week in 1967 — The student council officers were elected at Southwest Junior High School. Serving as president for the 1967-68 school year was George Wackerhagen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred H. Wackerhagen of Pfafftown. Other officers elected were Bill Gross, vice-president; Cathy Zafoot, secretary and Diane Gabard, treasurer.
Several West Forsyth High students were recognized for their service to the Red Cross as student Red Cross volunteers — Carol Cooper, Joy Hester, Veda Miller, Brenda Scott, Carol Scott, Emily Todd, Brenda Walker and Debbie Spaugh. There was an informal ceremony held at the Medicenter.
Clemmons held their annual community picnic on the grounds of Clemmons Elementary School. The fun began with a softball game played between a Baptist team, captained by Gene Livengood and a Moravian-Methodist-Presbyterian team, captained by John Hunter. The pastors from the four churches were asked to umpire.
The Rev. L. L. McGee, of Clemmons, was one of four religious leaders who taught courses during the fall semester of the Moravian Seminary For Laymen.
Enrollment in Clemmons and Lewisville Elementary Schools and Southwest Junior High and West Forsyth Senior High increased again this year.
Stephen H. Harper, of Clemmons, participated in a U.S. Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps (AFROTC) field-training encampment at Keesler AFB, Mississippi.
Mrs. C. P. Shelton, of Clemmons, was among the 41 Forsyth County senior citizens who returned from a charter bus trip to Grand Canyon, Arizona and other places of interest. Mrs. Shelton was a member of Clemmons Senior Citizen Club.
Mrs. Neil Barnard, supervisor of the contracting and licensing section of Security Life and Trust Company, was voted, “Miss Security” at the company’s annual picnic held at Camp Hanes. She and her husband, Jim, live in Clemmons and attended Clemmons First Baptist Church.
Pfc. Dewey Dunn arrived in South Vietnam and was assigned as a clerk with the 518th Signal Co. in Nha-Trang, 300 miles from Saigon.
Seaman Recruit Edward A. Long, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Long of Clemmons, graduated from nine weeks of Navy basic training at the Naval Training Center.
Ralph Stewart, of Lewisville, accepted the chairmanship for the annual United Fund campaign for the Lewisville area.
Jerry Davis, yeomen 3rd class, who had been serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal, arrived back in Norfolk, VA. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Davis of Clemmons.
