The Centenary United Methodist Church, located at 5280 Hampton Road in Clemmons, will celebrate its 135th church anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 14, during the 10:45 a.m. worship service. The theme for the program is “Preaching the Gospel — Remaining True to the Faith — Now and in the Future,” based on Acts 14:21-28. The community is invited to participate in worship and in attending the celebration dinner following morning worship at noon. During the dinner hour, the church will display historical items from its past.

The church was founded in 1883, and has been an important part of the Clemmons and North Davidson County community over the years. As a community oriented, mission church, Centenary strives to impact the community through living and sharing the Word and love of Christ through service in the community. Recent examples of this include the joint vacation Bible school with the Iglesia Alianza Cristiana Y Missionera De Clemmons this past summer, and the hosting of its first “God Red for Women Tea” this past February, which focused on improving women’s heart health.

The Rev. Michael Bailey, Yadkin Valley District Superintendent of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, will be the guest preacher. Rev. Bailey was appointed district superintendent on July 1, 2017, by Bishop Paul Leeland. In appointing Rev. Bailey, Bishop Leeland said, “He has shown tremendous leadership in our conference, served Christ United Methodist Church faithfully and effectively, and will be an outstanding asset to our ministry team. He brings a strong sense of pastoral identity, experience and vision for the church which will server our conference with the same passion and fruitfulness that he has offered his congregation.” Previously, Bailey served as the pastor of Christ United Methodist Church in Greensboro where he has served since 2012. Prior to that, he served at Mount Zion UMC in Cornelius for 10 years, and four years as the pastor of the American Protestant Church of The Hague, Netherlands, from 1998-2002. He is a graduate of Lambuth University (B.A., 1978) and Pacific School of Religion (M.Div., 1984).

Rev. Vincent Howell is the current pastor at Centenary. Howell is also the author of the recently published book, “Managing Projects in the Ministry,” published by Judson Press.

The event will be held at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 5280 Hampton Road, Clemmons. Everyone is invited to attend and there is no cost. Call Centenary Church at 336-766-5987 if you have any questions.
