Children’s programs:
Chess at the Library: Join in for fun and instruction on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 4 p.m. Chess boards will be available for play. Open for children in grades 1-5. Registration is required. To register, visit or call the Clemmons Branch Library at 336-703-2920.
Story Time Note: Due to early voting at the library, there will be no story times from Oct. 12 through Nov. 5.

Adult programs:
Book Lovers’ Club: The Clemmons Branch Library’s Book Lovers’ Club meets every first Monday of the month (unless the date falls on a holiday). Join this dynamic group for a great discussion of a selected title. Free and open to the public. The next meeting will be on Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion of “Origin” by Dan Brown.
Clemmons Cookin’ Club: If you enjoy cooking, come join the Clemmons Cookin’ Club. Come in and choose a recipe from a pre-selected book and a copy will be made for you. Bring in the finished dish on the day of the meeting to share with other members. Expand your palate by tasting all the recipes, connect with people who enjoy cooking and discuss the recipes. Call 703-2920 if you have questions. It will last about one hour. The next meeting is on Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the auditorium, 3554 Clemmons Road. Visit or call the library for more information.

Friedberg Moravian Church chicken pie and bazaar

Friedberg Moravian Church will be hosting a chicken pie and bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 4-7 p.m. Come and enjoy chicken pie and country ham, visit the bazaar, tasty baked goods and much more. Adults are $10 and children are $6. Frozen pies will be available in the fellowship hall, large pies are $12 (limit five). The event is sponsored by Friedberg Moravian Women’s Fellowship. Hope Moravian Halloween Carnival

Hope Moravian Church will have a Halloween Carnival on Sunday, Oct. 28, from 4-6:30 p.m. Activities include mystery walk, costume contest, carved pumpkin contest, food, games and more. Hope Moravian is located at 2759 Hope Church Road in Winston-Salem.

Centenary UMC Trunk or Treat

Centenary United Methodist Church of Clemmons will be having Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 6-8 p.m. In addition, chicken stew and hotdogs will be served. All are welcome. Centenary United Methodist is located at 5280 Hampton Road.

Unity Moravian bazaar

Unity Moravian Women’s Fellowship Annual Bazaar will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Chicken pies, decorative Moravian Christmas Trees and Moravian stars, sporting goods for men and women, baked goods and many other Christmas and craft creations by local artisans and church members will be for sale. Breakfast and lunch will be available. Unity Moravian is located at 8300 Concord Church Road in Lewisville. From Winston-Salem, take the Lewisville exit off  U.S. 421 North. Go south (left) on Concord Church Road approximately ½ mile. Church will be on the left.

Monster Dash and Goblin Hop

On Sunday, Oct. 21, the Village of Clemmons would like to invite you to the fourth annual Monster Dash and Goblin Hop from 2-4 p.m. at Village Point Greenway, 3210 Village Point Drive. This will be a free event for our community. More than 40 local businesses and organizations will host a table around the greenway with free activities for kids and giveaways. Children are invited to dress in their Halloween costume and “goblin hop” along the greenway. A special thank you to Hayward Industries and Wake Forest Baptist Health Outpatient Surgery — Clemmons (an affiliate of Surgical Care Affiliates) for sponsoring this event.

Free chicken stew/chili cookoff

Union Hill Baptist Church will host a free chicken stew/chili cookoff this Saturday, Oct. 20, at 5 p.m. All are welcome and invited to attend. Union Hill Baptist Church is located at 8494 Lasater Road.

Covered dish, Sr. Vacation Bible School

On Friday, Oct. 19,  at 6:30 p.m., Pine Grove UMC will host a covered dish dinner theater featuring BJ Johnston in “The Man From Aldersgate.” Johnston brings John Wesley and his dynamic ministry to life. Also, Pine Grove UMC will be hosting a Sr. Vacation Bible School on Nov. 5-7 with Ed Kilbourne as speaker. Hidden Treasures of the Past

The Lewisville Historical Society invites the public to its regular Membership Meeting on Monday, Nov. 12, at 6 p.m. at the Lewisville United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall (6290 Shallowford Road, Lewisville). The program will be “Hidden Treasures of the Past,” presented by local historian and genealogist Baxter Cromer. He will discuss the many items found during his search of his parent’s home. The treasures found pertain to local history, family treasure, and go back many generations, including letters from past presidents. Light refreshments will be served. Free and open to the public. Annual holiday sale

Harmony Grove UMC is hosting its Annual Holiday Sale on Oct. 20, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a chance to purchase gently used decorations for a variety of holidays throughout the year. Quilt show

Forsyth Piecers and Quilters Guild will present “Winston-Salem Quilts 2018,” a biennial quilt show on Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show will be at Gateway YWCA, 1300 S Main Street, Winston-Salem, and admission is $5 for one day or $7 for both days. Included are trunk shows by Quilters Gallery on Nov. 2 and Lee Monroe on Nov. 3. Both shows are at 2 p.m. Vendors, demonstrations, boutique, and quilts for sale. Trinity Elms Fall Bazaar

Trinity Elms Assisted Living is hosting its first Fall Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 8 a.m, until noon. Vendor tables are $10. Space is limited. Come do some early Christmas shopping! Trinity Elms is located at 3750 Harper Road, Clemmons.

Donation Collection for VA hospital

Between Oct. 15 and Nov. 10, the Lewisville Branch Library is collecting donated items for veterans being treated at the W. G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury. Please call 336-703-2940 for the list of items needed.

Forsyth County Republican Women to meet

The Forsyth County Republican Women will meet on Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Mi Pueblo Restaurant, 644 S. Stratford Rd., Winston-Salem. Those planning to eat should arrive at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will begin at 6:30 with guest speakers who are candidates for office in the November election. They include Rep. Debra Conrad, Rep. Trunk or Treat at Holy Family Catholic Church

Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons on Kinnamon Road will host Trunk or Treat again this year on Sunday, Oct. 28, from 4-5:30 p.m. Car decoration begins at 3:30 p.m. Lots of activities for kids will be available, including lots of games to play, a large bounce house and the renowned Tunnel of Terror. Prizes will be awarded for best decorated car and best costume. If you’re not into candy, free hotdogs and drinks while be available while supplies last. Come decorate your car and be prepared to give candy to our little boos and ghouls. Maybe one of the coveted prizes will be yours!

Clemmons Presbyterian hosting afternoon Grief Share program

Clemmons Presbyterian Church is hosting a Grief Share series on Sunday afternoons from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the church parlor, from Sept. 9 to Dec. 9. Grief Share is a Biblical, Christ-centered teaching on grief topics associated with the loss of a loved one. This is a 13-week program, but each session is standalone — interested parties will benefit from each meeting even if unable to attend all of the sessions. The meeting consists of a video, discussion and a personal workbook. This is a warm, caring environment and one that you may come to see as an oasis on the long journey through your grief. Confidentiality is an utmost concern. These groups are encouraging and supportive. No registration is necessary. The workbooks are $15. Child care is available. GriefShare program at Clemmons UMC

Clemmons United Methodist Church will have a series of GriefShare, a grief support group every Monday night at 7 p.m. in the Ministry Center. Lewisville Recycle Committee meeting date change

The Lewisville Recycling Committee has changed its regular meeting date from Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m. to Monday, Oct. 30 at 6:30 p.m. The regular agenda will be followed.

Victory on the Frontline Church

Sunday, Oct. 21, is “Old Fashioned Sunday.” Dress in your fall harvest clothes, and enjoy a pot luck supper after service. Children’s and adult Sunday school starts at 10 a.m. Worship service with Pastor Michael Duffield begins at 11 a.m. Bib overalls, boots and bonnets are encouraged. Wednesday evening is “Just As I Am” casual and family service. Kiwanis Club

The Clemmons Kiwanis Club meets at the Trinity Elms Health & Rehab facility at 7449 Fair Oaks Dr. in Clemmons. The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. Meeting lasts one hour. Call 703- 2921 for any other information.

 

Clemmons Civic Club

Clemmons Civic Club, one of the areas oldest community organizations, is now open to both men and women interested in serving the Clemmons community. Lewisville American Legion Post 522

Join a community post that supports our veterans and the town of Lewisville. Responsible for the veteran’s memorial and Memorial Day event at the Shallowford Square in Lewisville. Clemmons Food Pantry

The Clemmons Food Pantry, now located at 2585 Old Glory Road, Suite 109, Clemmons, is open Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. People may receive services or drop off donations at these times. www.clemmonsfoodpantry.org
