Overnight closures of section of I-40 West begin

Published 12:00 am Thursday, November 1, 2018

A section of Interstate 40 West will be closed overnight at the Davie-Forsyth County line over a two-week period, starting Sunday, Oct. 28. The closure will be in place from 11:30 p.m. until 6 a.m. each night through Saturday, Nov. 10, except for Saturday, Nov. 3, when it will remain open.

The closure is to allow crews to do paving work as part of the construction of a new I-40 bridge over the Yadkin River to replace the two bridges now in place, and the widening and improving of I-40 itself. All work is weather conditional as it can’t be done in rainy conditions or if the temperature gets too low.

The detour in place will send traffic off the interstate at Harper Road, then onto U.S. 158 and N.C. 801 to get back to I-40 West.

Drivers are urged to pay extra attention when approaching the closure and along the detour route, and to anticipate possibly needing extra time to reach their destination because of the detour.
