Thanksgiving closings: All Forsyth County Public Library locations will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23 for Thanksgiving. The library will re-open on Saturday, Nov. 24.

Children’s programs:

Children’s Story times: Join in for great books, finger plays, songs and crafts. Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for toddlers (ages 18 months to 3 years), Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for preschoolers (ages 3-5 years).

Adult programs:

Book Lovers’ Club: The Clemmons Branch Library’s Book Lovers’ Club meets every first Monday of the month (unless the date falls on a holiday). Join this dynamic group for a great discussion of a selected title. Free and open to the public. The next meeting will be at a restaurant on Dec. 3 at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion of “The Hush” by John Hart. Contact the library by Nov. 21 if you plan to attend.

Clemmons Cookin’ Club: If you enjoy cooking, come join the Clemmons Cookin’ Club. Come in and choose a recipe from a pre-selected book and a copy will be made for you. Bring in the finished dish on the day of the meeting to share with other members. Expand your palate by tasting all the recipes, connect with people who enjoy cooking, and discuss the recipes. Call 703-2920 if you have questions. The program will last about one hour. Jazz worship service

Shallowford Presbyterian Church will offer a jazz worship service of praise and thanksgiving at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 18. Musicians for the service, which includes hymns, gospel songs, and spirituals for congregation and choir will be Matt Kendrick, Karen Kendrick, Larry Carman and Dave Reid with Diana Tuffin, vocalist. Shallowford Presbyterian is located at 1200 Lewisville-Clemmons Road near the Lewisville-Clemmons exit 242 of U.S. 421 North, next to Kaplan’s. Flag retirement ceremony rescheduled

The Village of Clemmons would like to invite you to join in as Boy Scout Troop 736 properly retires the American flag in remembrance and honor for those who have served or continue to serve our country and their communities. The ceremony will be Monday, Nov. 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the Clemmons Civic Club, 2870 Middlebrook Drive.

If you would like to retire a flag that is worn, tattered or damaged, we encourage you to bring them to the ceremony or drop them off at Village Hall, 3715 Clemmons Road.

Tractor Supply Co. will be closed Thanksgiving Day

Tractor Supply Company, the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States, will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22, in observance of Thanksgiving. Tractor Supply, which operates more than 1,725 stores nationwide with more than 28,000 team members, will reopen Friday at 6 a.m.

Christmas Treasures Sale

The eleventh annual Christmas Treasures Sale will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 8 a.m. to noon at Clemmons Moravian Church Fellowship Hall. All gently used items will be holiday related including ornaments, lights and many other decorations.  The proceeds will be shared with Clemmons Food Pantry and Clemmons Moravian Church. Surviving the Holidays seminar at CPC

Clemmons Presbyterian Church will host GriefShare: Surviving the Holidays, a helpful, encouraging seminar for people facing the holidays after a loved one’s death. This event is open to all, church members, as well as anyone in the community. No prior participation in GriefShare is required. The seminar will be Sunday, Nov. 18, from 2:30 to 4:30 in the church parlor. The cost is $5 for the book, and child care is available, by pre-registration only.

The seminar features video interviews with counselors, grief experts and other people who have experienced the holidays and their loved one’s death, and who offer practical suggestions and reassurance. These people share honestly about:

• Being prepared for surprising emotions that may hit over the holidays
• What to do about traditions and other coming changes
• How to handle holiday parties and invitations
• How to survive potentially awkward moments with other people
• Where to find comfort, strength and hope in a seemingly hopeless time

Those who attend will receive a survival guide filled with practical tips, encouraging words, journaling ideas and exercises for daily help through the holiday season. For more information, contact the church office at 336-766-4631.

West Forsyth Class of 1968 reunion

Clemmons Presbyterian hosting afternoon Grief Share program

Clemmons Presbyterian Church is hosting a Grief Share series on Sunday afternoons from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the church parlor, from Sept. 9 to Dec. 9. Grief Share is a Biblical, Christ-centered teaching on grief topics associated with the loss of a loved one. This is a 13-week program, but each session is standalone — interested parties will benefit from each meeting even if unable to attend all of the sessions. The meeting consists of a video, discussion and a personal workbook. This is a warm, caring environment and one that you may come to see as an oasis on the long journey through your grief. Confidentiality is an utmost concern. These groups are encouraging and supportive. No registration is necessary. The workbooks are $15. Child care is available. GriefShare program at Clemmons UMC

Clemmons United Methodist Church will have a series of GriefShare, a grief support group every Monday night at 7 p.m. in the Ministry Center. Victory on the Frontline Church

Coffee, juice and pastries are served every Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m. Children’s and adult Sunday School starts at 10 a.m. Worship service with Pastor Michael Duffield begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. is the “Fall Bazaar & Christmas Shop.” The downstairs fellowship hall will host a variety of baked goods, Christmas crafts, gifts, toys and a silent auction. There will be a rummage room with great deals, and a holiday themed yard sale on the front sidewalk area. Breakfast and a pinto bean lunch will be available. All people of Christian faith are encouraged to attend. Kiwanis Club

The Clemmons Kiwanis Club meets at the Trinity Elms Health & Rehab facility at 7449 Fair Oaks Dr. in Clemmons. The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. Meeting lasts one hour. Call 703- 2921 for any other information.

 

Clemmons Civic Club

Clemmons Civic Club, one of the areas oldest community organizations, is now open to both men and women interested in serving the Clemmons community. Meeting are held in the civic club building on Middlebrook Drive the fourth Thursday of the month beginning with dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by an informative program.  Your first meal is complimentary.  RSVP to Garland Layton, president at 336-462-6074.

Lewisville American Legion Post 522

Join a community post that supports our veterans and the town of Lewisville. Responsible for the veteran’s memorial and Memorial Day event at the Shallowford Square in Lewisville. Post also assists in veteran’s funerals. Meets every first Thursday at 7:30 p.m. At the G. Galloway Reynolds Community Center directly behind Lewisville Library. Clemmons Food Pantry

The Clemmons Food Pantry, now located at 2585 Old Glory Road, Suite 109, Clemmons, is open Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. People may receive services or drop off donations at these times. www.clemmonsfoodpantry.org

 

Cross Stitching at Shiloh Lutheran

If you enjoy needle crafting, knit, cross-stitch, crochet and non-sewing blanket projects, consider joining the Busy Hands Group, every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Located at Shiloh Lutheran Church fellowship hall, 703 Lewisville-Vienna Rd, Lewisville, NC 27023. Items donated to sick, needy and shut-ins.
