WINSTON-SALEM – Piedmont Chamber Singers continues its concert series with Dan Forrest’s “LUX: The Dawn from On High” performed with the Lexington Choral Society, with one concert in Winston-Salem on Dec. 7 and another in Lexington on Dec. 8.

“LUX: The Dawn From On High” is Dan Forrest’s third major work for chorus and orchestra, (after “Requiem For the Living” and “Jubilate Deo”). This five-movement work explores various facets of LUX (Latin for “light”), in texts ranging from ancient liturgical chant to Scripture to modern secular love poetry. The music of LUX, written in 2018, was inspired thematically and spiritually by these profound texts; visually by the light in the Reims Cathedral in France and at the Poulnabrone Dolmen in Ireland; and musically by a variety of musical sources from ancient chant to modern minimalist composers. This performance will be its first in the Piedmont Triad.

Other works on this concert feature holiday favorites and another community collaboration with the Exaltation Ringers of First Presbyterian Church joining PCS in singing “Ring Out, Ye Bells,” a new choral work by Marques L. A. Garret, Samuel Carlton, and Dan Forrest (Winston-Salem concert only).

While PCS is offering complimentary admission in Season 41, the contributions of concert patrons are greatly appreciated and will be collected at each concert.

PCS will also be collecting non-perishable food items at the Winston-Salem concert to benefit the Food Pantry of Maple Springs United Methodist Church.
