Children’s programs:

Children’s story times: Join in for great books, finger plays, songs and crafts. Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for toddlers (ages 18 months to 3 years), Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for preschoolers (ages 3-5 years).

Adult programs:

Book Lovers’ Club: The Clemmons Branch Library’s Book Lovers’ Club meets every first Monday of the month (unless the date falls on a holiday). Join this dynamic group for a great discussion of a selected title. Free and open to the public. The next meeting will be on Jan. 7 at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion of “Swimming Between Worlds” by Elaine Neil Orr.

Clemmons Cookin’ Club: If you enjoy cooking, come join the Clemmons Cookin’ Club. Come in and choose a recipe from a pre-selected book and a copy will be made for you. Bring in the finished dish on the day of the meeting to share with other members. Expand your palate by tasting all the recipes, connect with people who enjoy cooking and discuss the recipes. The next meeting is on Wednesday, Dec. 19, in the auditorium at 3554 Clemmons Road and will feature finger foods and appetizers. Visit or call the library for more information.

Moravian Christmas Open House

Unity Moravian Church is hosting an open house on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 2:30 p.m.

This interactive community open house and craft fair is free to everyone. Experience the history, music, and traditions of the Moravians, one of the world’s oldest churches. Buy unique gifts, chicken pies, and baked goods for the holidays. Enjoy free sugar cake, cookies, hot cocoa, and lovefeast coffee. Crafts for the kids and young at heart. Stay for our children’s lovefeast at 4 p.m., a noisy and joyous worship experience where you can share in a symbolic meal, become part of the Christmas story, and sing carols. Come as you are!

2:30 p.m.: Moravian Christmas (crafts, baked goods, snacks, demonstrations of Moravian traditions such as star and candle making)

3:30 p.m.: The Christmas Putz (presentation of Christmas nativity scenes)

3:45 p.m.: Band prelude (intergenerational)

4 p.m.: Interactive lovefeast and candle service begins

Christmas events at Shallowford Presbyterian

Shallowford Presbyterian Church presents an evening of Christmas song with Martha Bassett and Friends on Friday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 p.m. A donation of $15 is suggested. Refreshments will follow. Shallowford Presbyterian also presents a Service of Nine Lessons and Carols on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 10:30 a.m. This service weaves together scripture and song, including carols performed by choir and congregation, beginning with the Genesis story of the Garden of Eden through the prophecies of redemption to the fulfillment of that promise in the birth of Christ.

Christmas Candle Tea

Ardmore Moravian Church will have its annual Christmas Candle Tea tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. Tours will start every 15 minutes beginning at 5 p.m. Such traditional Moravian crafts as candle making, cookie making, tin ware and Moravian star making will be demonstrated. A Putz displays the Nativity story. Learn about the many symbols seen throughout the city every day and especially during the holiday season. One of the largest Moravian stars in the Southeast will be hanging in the church sanctuary where the tours begin. Baked goods, chicken pies and crafts, including Christmas and Moravian items, will be sold to support the Candle Tea.  Admission is free. Annual holiday sock sale

The annual holiday sock sale will be Dec. 7, 8, 13 and 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Goler Enrichment Center at 630 N. Patterson Avenue in Winston-Salem (corner of North Patterson Ave. and 7th Street).

A huge selection of packaged first-quality socks will be available. All socks are $1 a pair and include brands such as Dickies, Dockers and Saucony. Special discounts for multiple quantities purchased. The event is sponsored by Goler Memorial Parent Body Missionary Society, and proceeds will help with charitable work in the community. Free shred event

The Local Government Federal Credit Union is sponsoring a free shred event Saturday, Dec. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Village of Clemmons Public Works. Open to anyone who lives or works in Forsyth County. Not for use by businesses, commercial entities or county departments. Limit of three document boxes or 75 pounds of paper per attendee. Evening service

Shiloh Lutheran Church will be hosting evening services on Nov. 29, Dec. 6, 13 and 20. Come at 6:30 p.m. for fellowship and light refreshments, service starts at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Clemmons Presbyterian hosting afternoon Grief Share program

Clemmons Presbyterian Church is hosting a Grief Share series on Sunday afternoons from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the church parlor, from Sept. 9 to Dec. 9. Grief Share is a Biblical, Christ-centered teaching on grief topics associated with the loss of a loved one. This is a 13-week program, but each session is standalone — interested parties will benefit from each meeting even if unable to attend all of the sessions. The meeting consists of a video, discussion and a personal workbook. This is a warm, caring environment and one that you may come to see as an oasis on the long journey through your grief. Confidentiality is an utmost concern. These groups are encouraging and supportive. No registration is necessary. The workbooks are $15. Child care is available. GriefShare program at Clemmons UMC

Clemmons United Methodist Church will have a series of GriefShare, a grief support group every Monday night at 7 p.m. in the Ministry Center. Victory on the Frontline Church

Coffee, juice and pastries are served every Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m. Children’s and adult Sunday School starts at 10 a.m. Worship service with Pastor Michael Duffield begins at 11 a.m. Music performed by Lonnie & Faye Maines, and the Victory Singers. Wednesday evening “Just As I Am” services will resume in January. All people of Christian faith are encouraged to attend. Kiwanis Club

The Clemmons Kiwanis Club meets at the Trinity Elms Health & Rehab facility at 7449 Fair Oaks Dr. in Clemmons. The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. Meeting lasts one hour. Call 703- 2921 for any other information.

 

Clemmons Civic Club

Clemmons Civic Club, one of the areas oldest community organizations, is now open to both men and women interested in serving the Clemmons community. Meeting are held in the civic club building on Middlebrook Drive the fourth Thursday of the month beginning with dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by an informative program.  Your first meal is complimentary.  RSVP to Garland Layton, president at 336-462-6074.

Lewisville American Legion Post 522

Join a community post that supports our veterans and the town of Lewisville. Responsible for the veteran’s memorial and Memorial Day event at the Shallowford Square in Lewisville. Post also assists in veteran’s funerals. Meets every first Thursday at 7:30 p.m. At the G. Galloway Reynolds Community Center directly behind Lewisville Library. Clemmons Food Pantry

The Clemmons Food Pantry, now located at 2585 Old Glory Road, Suite 109, Clemmons, is open Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. People may receive services or drop off donations at these times. www.clemmonsfoodpantry.org

 

Cross Stitching at Shiloh Lutheran
