Local students earn honors

Local students graduate from Georgia Tech

The Georgia Institute of Technology presented degrees to approximately 3,600 undergraduate and graduate students during the institute’s 256th commencement exercises on Dec. 14-15, 2018, at the McCamish Pavilion.

• Taylor Allen of Clemmons received a doctorate of philosophy in chemistry

• James Grissom of Winston-Salem received a bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering

Local student honored at Chowan University

The Chowan University Honors Committee recognized Melany Garcia Lopez of Clemmons with the 2018-2019 Outstanding Student Award. The Outstanding Student Award acknowledges students who excel in the classroom and are active in campus and community projects and events. They achieve high academic standards, exemplify good citizenship, are considered campus leaders, and have made significant contributions to Chowan over the past year. Students are first nominated by faculty and staff, then reviewed by the Honors Committee for final selection.
