STATESVILLE — The deadline is quickly approaching for elementary and middle school students who are enrolled in grades 5-7 to apply for a scholarship from EnergyUnited to attend basketball camp this summer.

Each year, EnergyUnited awards two Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships: one for a young man to attend the Roy Williams Basketball Camp at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and one for a young woman to attend the Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp at N.C. State University in Raleigh. Applications must be emailed or postmarked no later than Friday, March 15.

“This scholarship program is about much more than just the game of basketball,” said Maureen Moore, communications manager at EnergyUnited. “Each year, the sports camp experience inspires so many kids to pursue excellence, both on and off the basketball court.”

At the camps, students stay overnight in campus dorms, learn fundamental basketball and life skills, and receive individual and group instruction from Division 1 coaches. Wes Moore, coach of the Wolfpack Women’s basketball team, and Roy Williams, coach of the Carolina Tar Heel men’s basketball team, will direct the camps with the help of staff and current and former players.

To be eligible, students must be in the fifth, sixth or seventh grade during the 2018-2019 school year and should reside within EnergyUnited’s 19-county service area. Applicants must have permission from a parent or guardian to attend the overnight camp and should plan to provide their own transportation to and from the camp, if selected to attend.

Applications and more information can be found at www.energyunited.com/sports-camp or by contacting,
Adam Martin, communications specialist at 704-924-2139 or adam.martin@energyunited.com. Applicants will be judged on academics, extracurricular activities and an essay on “Why I Love Playing Basketball.”
