Shallow Ford Walk this Saturday

The Shallow Ford Walk is from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. This is opportunity to walk both sides of the historic Shallow Ford of the Yadkin River and tour the site of the Battle of the Shallow Ford. Shallow Ford was an historic frontier crossing on the Yadkin River and a link in the Great Wagon Road. The battle of the Shallow Ford, clash between loyalists and patriots, took place on Oct. 14, 1780.

Schedule of events:
• 8:30-9 a.m.: Registration and refreshments


• 9-9:15 a.m.: Overview of the Shallow Ford

• 
9:30-11:30 a.m.: Walk to Ford on Forsyth County side

• 
11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.: Lunch

• 
1-3 p.m.: Walk to Ford on Yadkin County side

• 
3-4 p.m.: Tour of Battle Site

• 
4:15-5 p.m.: Wrap up, questions and evaluations


Meet at the Huntsville Baptist Church in Huntsville (4901 Courtney-Huntsville Road, Yadkinville). If you have a van, please bring it to help with carpooling to sites. Fee is $10 per person. Bring your own bagged lunch, and coffee and water will be provided. It is suggested to bring water and snack for afternoon hike. Wear sturdy shoes and clothing to suit the weather. The hikes to the Shallow Ford from the roads are strenuous and cover rough terrain. The ground may also be wet. 
This event is not suggested for children under 12, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Pets are not allowed. 
Pre-registration forms may be picked up at the Lewisville Public Library in Lewisville and the Yadkin County Public Library in Yadkinville. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited. 
The event is co-sponsored by the Lewisville Historical Society and the Yadkin County Historical Society.
