WINSTON-SALEM — More than 10,000 people are expected at the 14th annual Piedmont Earth Day Fair from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds. This family-friendly free event hosted by Piedmont Environmental Alliance (PEA) combines fun and educational activities, live entertainment, and exhibitors with the goal to cultivate a passion for the environment in fairgoers of all ages. Top sponsors of the fair include Volvo Group of Companies, City of Winston-Salem, Alloy Marketing, and Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina.

“Now more than ever, people are looking for local ways to take action and build community,” said Piedmont Environmental Alliance Executive Director Jamie Maier. “The Earth Day Fair is a fun way to engage with and learn about PEA’s efforts to create a healthier, more economically vibrant and sustainable community.”

This year’s fair will feature an exciting new site design, which will guide attendees through themed exhibits and demonstrations according to the categories: Water, Waste, Air, and Food. All four areas will highlight different problems and solutions to help make our local community more sustainable and to inspire action among community members.

Children’s activities at the fair include arts and crafts, dance, face-painting, yoga, and a “Children’s Corner,” featuring special activities hosted by Kaleideum, Sawtooth School for Visual Art, and Bookmarks. School-aged kids can also participate in this year’s Earth Day Fair Art Contest, in which they create a work of art that expresses what Earth Day means to them.

Adult fairgoers will enjoy more than 100 exhibitors, a full and diverse music line-up, and environmentally-themed demonstrations that provide practical tips and information for living a more environmentally sustainable lifestyle — including how propagation 101, backyard beekeeping, and natural cleaning techniques. At the Goodwill Swap Shop, attendees can trade gently used books, jewelry, and clothing and receive new (to you) items for free.

“With more than 100 earth-friendly exhibitors, great music, delicious food, and engaging programs, we hope the Piedmont Earth Day Fair will inspire people to take action for a more sustainable community this Earth Day,” said Maier.
