Children’s programs:

Children’s Story times: Join in for great books, finger plays, songs and crafts. Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for toddlers (ages 18 months-3 years), Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for preschoolers (ages 3-5).

Story Time at Night: Join in at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 17, for stories, fingerplays, songs and activities. Open to all ages.

Chess Club: Come join us at the Clemmons Branch Library at 4 p.m. on June 6 to play the game of kings. Chess sets will be provided so bring your moves. Open to beginners and players with all levels of expertise. Open to ages 7-17.

Summer reading programs:

Outer Space Science: Zoom, zoom, zoom! We’re going to the Moon! Join in on Monday, June 10, at 4 p.m. at Clemmons Branch Library in a fun afternoon learning about the moon. We’ll be creating moon phases and experimenting with how impact craters are formed. We may get messy, so be prepared. This program is intended for ages 5-10, but older siblings are welcome.

Mars Rover: How did NASA control the Mars Rover? Team up as “Mission Control” and “Mars Rover” to navigate an obstacle course and practice sending instructions to our Lego Mindstorm rovers. This program is on Wednesday, June 12, at 2 p.m. and is for ages 10-17. Registration is required. Please register at the library or by calling 336-703-2920.

Greek Myths: Brave heroes! Meddling gods and goddesses! Epic journeys! Greek myths have it all, and Attic Salt Theatre Company’s adaptation of some of our favorite myths will keep you cheering and laughing while you learn about mythology. The show will be on Thursday, June 13, at 11 a.m. While the show is intended for ages 4-11, all ages are welcome to attend.

Father’s Day Pop-up Cards: Join in on Friday, June 14, at 3 p.m. at Clemmons Branch Library as Japanese Outreach Initiative Ambassador Nana Watanobe teaches us how to make origami cards style pop-up cards for Father’s Day. This program is open to ages 5 and up.

Star Festival: On Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m. join in to create our own bamboo wish tree and origami decorations as we celebrate the Japanese Star Festival. This program is open to children and teens of all ages and skill levels. Supplies will be provided.

Space Colony: What would space colonies on other planets look like? Come join in at the Clemmons Branch Library on Monday, June 17, at 2 p.m. to build a colony out of recycled materials to support life on another planet. This program is for all ages.

NC Zoo – Animal Stars: Through stories, touchable artifacts, and a few live animals, we will explore a number of animal constellations on Wednesday, June 19, at 3 p.m. Presented by the North Carolina Zoo.

Adult programs:

Book Lovers’ Club: The Clemmons Branch Library’s Book Lovers’ Club meets every first Monday of the month (unless the date falls on a holiday). Join this dynamic group for a great discussion of a selected title. Free and open to the public. The next meeting will be on July 1 at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion of “Kingdom of the Blind” by Louise Penny.

Clemmons Cookin’ Club: If you enjoy cooking, come join the Clemmons Cookin’ Club. Come in and choose a recipe from a pre-selected book and a copy will be made for you. Bring in the finished dish on the day of the meeting to share with other members. Expand your palate by tasting all the recipes, connect with people who enjoy cooking, and discuss the recipes. Call 336-703-2920 if you have questions. The program will last about one hour. The next meeting is at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, in the auditorium at 3554 Clemmons Road. Jazz worship service

Shallowford Presbyterian Church will offer a jazz worship service, “Come, O Holy Spirit,” in celebration of Pentecost at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 9. Guest musicians are Diana Tuffin, vocalist and the Muddy River Dixieland Jazz Band with Wiley Porter, banjo; Steve Griggs, tuba; Larry Carman, drums; and Dave Reid, clarinet. Rev. Jeff Sockwell will lead the service which includes hymns and spirituals for congregation and Communion. Newcomers and Neighbors meeting

Newcomers and Neighbors of the greater Winston-Salem area holds its monthly meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Coffee and social time is at 9:45 a.m. with meeting to follow.
