Events for the week of July 18

Children’s programs:

Children’s Story times: Join in for great books, finger plays, songs and crafts. Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for toddlers (ages 18 months-3 years), Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for preschoolers (ages 3-5).

Chess Club: Come join the Clemmons Branch Library to play the game of kings. Chess sets will be provided so bring your moves. Open to beginners and players with all levels of expertise. For to ages 7-17. The next meeting will be on Monday, July 22, at 4 p.m.

Summer reading Programs:

Origami: On Saturday, July 20, at 11 a.m. join Japanese Outreach Initiative Ambassador Nana Watanobe as she teaches basic origami. This program is open to children and teens of all ages and skill levels. Origami paper will be provided.

Icy Planets: How do scientists explore “icy worlds” in the outer solar system? On Monday, July 22, at 2 p.m. participants will explore “icy planets” to see what secrets they hold. You may get messy so be prepared. This program is intended for ages 5-10, but all ages are welcome to attend.

Signs of Life: It’s alive! Or is it? Define what makes something alive and perform an experiment to find signs of life in three cups of sand. This program is for ages 10-17 and will be held on Wednesday, July 24, at 2 p.m.

Professor Whizzpop Blast of to Books: On Thursday, July 25, at 2 p.m. join Professor Whizzpop for a cosmic supernova of reading, magic and audience participation.​​​​ During the show, you’ll travel at the speed of sound, defeat an alien invasion, learn about black holes and encourage the audience to explore a universe of books. This program is intended for ages 4-11, but all ages are welcome to attend.

Clemmons/Lewisville Teen Lock-In:

Lock-In: The Clemmons and Lewisville branch libraries will team up in Lewisville on Friday, July 26, for a teen lock-in. Activities include pizza, playing space-themed games, and making alien slime at the Lewisville Branch Library from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Science fiction/space-inspired costumes welcome. Adult programs:

Book Lovers’ Club: The Clemmons Branch Library’s Book Lovers’ Club meets every first Monday of the month (unless the date falls on a holiday). Join this dynamic group for a great discussion of a selected title. Free and open to the public. The next meeting will be on Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion of “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens.

Clemmons Cookin’ Club: If you enjoy cooking, come join the Clemmons Cookin’ Club. Come in and choose a recipe from a pre-selected book and a copy will be made for you. Bring in the finished dish on the day of the meeting to share with other members. Expand your palate by tasting all the recipes, connect with people who enjoy cooking and discuss the recipes. Call the library at 336-703-2920 if you have questions. The program will last about one hour. The next meeting is at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, in the auditorium at 3554 Clemmons Road. Craft brothers reunion

The Craft brothers 64th anniversary singing will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, at Lewisville United Methodist Church in Lewisville. Everyone is invited. Refreshments to follow.

Free cardiovascular screening

A Novant Health cardiovascular screening including blood tests will be hosted by Unity Moravian Church on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. This event is free to anyone 18 and older. Advanced registration is required by calling 336-277-1880 or emailing CommunityWellness@novanthealth.org. Unity Moravian Church is located at 8300 Concord Church Road in Lewisville.

Newcomers and Neighbors meeting

Newcomers and Neighbors of the greater Winston-Salem area holds its monthly meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Coffee and social time is at 9:45 a.m. with meeting to follow. Jam sessions

Farmington Community Center at 1723 Farmington Road in Mocksville hosts a country music and gospel only jam session every Thursday night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The center also hosts a bluegrass jam session every Monday night from 7-9 p.m. Bring whatever instrument you play and join the fun. Cover charge for listeners $2, players are free.

Kiwanis Club

The Clemmons Kiwanis Club meets at the Trinity Elms Health & Rehab facility at 7449 Fair Oaks Dr. in Clemmons. The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. Meeting lasts one hour. Call 703- 2921 for any other information.

Clemmons Civic Club

Clemmons Civic Club, one of the areas oldest community organizations, is now open to both men and women interested in serving the Clemmons community. Meeting are held in the civic club building on Middlebrook Drive the fourth Thursday of the month beginning with dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by an informative program.  Your first meal is complimentary. Rotary Club of Clemmons

Chamber of Commerce

Lewisville American Legion Post 522

Join a community post that supports our veterans and the town of Lewisville. Responsible for the veteran’s memorial and Memorial Day event at the Shallowford Square in Lewisville. Post also assists in veteran’s funerals. Meets every first Thursday at 7:30 p.m. At the G. Galloway Reynolds Community Center directly behind Lewisville Library. Clemmons Food Pantry

The Clemmons Food Pantry, now located at 2585 Old Glory Road, Suite 109, Clemmons, is open Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. People may receive services or drop off donations at these times. www.clemmonsfoodpantry.org

Cross Stitching at Shiloh Lutheran

If you enjoy needle crafting, knit, cross-stitch, crochet and non-sewing blanket projects, consider joining the Busy Hands Group, every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Located at Shiloh Lutheran Church fellowship hall, 703 Lewisville-Vienna Rd, Lewisville, NC 27023. Items donated to sick, needy and shut-ins.
