Children’s programs

Story time break: The Clemmons Branch Library will be taking a break from story times in August. There will be no story times Aug. 5-29. Story times will return starting on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Chess Club: Come join the Clemmons Branch Library to play the game of kings. Chess sets will be provided so bring your moves. Open to beginners and players with all levels of expertise. For to ages 7-17. Upcoming meetings will be on Monday, Aug. 19, at 4 p.m. and on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 4 p.m.

Adult programs

Advance Planning Workshop: On Monday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m., learn about the living will and healthcare power of attorney. Each attendee will receive a copy of the documents explained in the workshop. To register, visit or call the Clemmons Branch Library at 336-703-2920.

Book Lovers’ Club: The Clemmons Branch Library’s Book Lovers’ Club meets every first Monday of the month (unless the date falls on a holiday). Join this dynamic group for a great discussion of a selected title. Free and open to the public. The next meeting will be on Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion of “Speak No Evil” by Uzodinma Iweala — the library’s “On The Same Page” book.

Clemmons Cookin’ Club: If you enjoy cooking, come join the Clemmons Cookin’ Club. Come in and choose a recipe from a pre-selected book and a copy will be made for you. Bring in the finished dish on the day of the meeting to share with other members. Expand your palate by tasting all the recipes, connect with people who enjoy cooking and discuss the recipes. Call the library at 336-703-2920 if you have questions. The program will last about one hour. The club’s next meeting is at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, in the auditorium at 3554 Clemmons Road. Free clothes and school supplies giveaway

As part of the Interfaith Alliance of Clemmons and Lewisville, there will be a free clothes and school supplies giveaway at the Centenary United Methodist Church on Monday, Aug. 19, 5-7 p.m.; Wednesday, Aug. 21, 5-7 p.m.; and Saturday, Aug. 24, 10 a.m.-noon. There are no restrictions, everyone is welcome to participate. Clothes and shoes for kids, teens, and adults will be available, in addition to school supplies for children getting ready for the start of the school year. Donations can also be dropped off at this time. Those with emergency needs for clothing should call the church at 336-766-5987. Centenary United Methodist Church is located at 5280 Hampton Road in Clemmons.

Pine Grove UMC Vacation Bible School

Pine Grove United Methodist Church is recruiting all kindergarten and elementary school children for a journey to Mars and beyond.

Come join Pine Grove on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at for Vacation Bible School to explore faith, kindness, boldness, thankfulness and hope. The adventure will include Bible stories, crafts, science experiments, games, songs and more. A light breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided.

Grief Share at Clemmons Presbyterian

Clemmons Presbyterian Church will offer a Grief Share Series beginning Sunday, Sept. 8, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the church parlor. Grief Share is a Christ-centered program designed to help those mourning the loss of a loved one. The program consists of videos, discussion and a personal workbook.  The program lasts for 13 weeks, but each session is standalone and not dependent on previous sessions.  No pre-registration is required and is open to the public. New Philly Farmers Market

The New Philly Farmers Market at New Philadelphia Moravian Church will be held the first three weeks in August. The church is inviting outside vendors to be part of this market, as well as members of NPMC who grow or create their own product. There will be a variety of vendors as well as music and food trucks. The market will be Aug. 8 and Aug. 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. New Philadelphia Moravian is located at 4440 Country Club Road in Winston-Salem.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers course

Registration is now underway for Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a six-week course for anyone caring for a loved one who is frail or ill. Classes will take place on Thursdays from Sept. 12-Oct. 17 from 6-8 p.m. at Trinity Elms in Clemmons. There is no charge, but donations are accepted. Registration is required. Classes are sponsored by the Shepherd’s Centers of Greater Winston-Salem, Family Caregiver Support Program, Senior Services, SECU Family House, and Daybreak Respite Program. Classes fill quickly, so early registration is suggested.

Salty Story Time

Bring the kids and come out for the first Salty Story Time at Salt Beach Salt Rooms on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 11 a.m.-noon. Spots are limited so call now to reserve your spot on the beach. GriefShare program at Clemmons UMC

Clemmons United Methodist Church will begin a new 13-week series of GriefShare, a grief recovery seminar and grief support group on Monday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. in the ministry center. If you or someone you know is grieving the loss of a loved one, whether it be a parent, child, spouse or sibling, you are invited. Shredding event

Holy Family Catholic Church will host a shredder event on Aug. 17 from 9 a.m.-noon in the church parking lot at 4820 Kinnamon Road in Clemmons. Suggested donations are $5 per bag or file box and checks can be made payable to Knights of Columbus.

Free cardiovascular screening

A Novant Health cardiovascular screening including blood tests will be hosted by Unity Moravian Church on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. This event is free to anyone 18 and older. Advanced registration is required by calling 336-277-1880 or emailing CommunityWellness@novanthealth.org. Unity Moravian Church is located at 8300 Concord Church Road in Lewisville.

Newcomers and Neighbors meeting

Newcomers and Neighbors of the greater Winston-Salem area holds its monthly meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Coffee and social time is at 9:45 a.m. with meeting to follow. Jam sessions

Farmington Community Center at 1723 Farmington Road in Mocksville hosts a country music and gospel only jam session every Thursday night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The center also hosts a bluegrass jam session every Monday night from 7-9 p.m. Bring whatever instrument you play and join the fun. Cover charge for listeners $2, players are free.

Kiwanis Club

The Clemmons Kiwanis Club meets at the Trinity Elms Health & Rehab facility at 7449 Fair Oaks Dr. in Clemmons. The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. Meeting lasts one hour. Call 703- 2921 for any other information.

Clemmons Civic Club

Clemmons Civic Club, one of the areas oldest community organizations, is now open to both men and women interested in serving the Clemmons community. Meeting are held in the civic club building on Middlebrook Drive the fourth Thursday of the month beginning with dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by an informative program.  Your first meal is complimentary. Lewisville American Legion Post 522

Join a community post that supports our veterans and the town of Lewisville. Responsible for the veteran’s memorial and Memorial Day event at the Shallowford Square in Lewisville. Post also assists in veteran’s funerals. Meets every first Thursday at 7:30 p.m. At the G. Galloway Reynolds Community Center directly behind Lewisville Library. Clemmons Food Pantry

The Clemmons Food Pantry, now located at 2585 Old Glory Road, Suite 109, Clemmons, is open Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. People may receive services or drop off donations at these times. www.clemmonsfoodpantry.org

Cross Stitching at Shiloh Lutheran

If you enjoy needle crafting, knit, cross-stitch, crochet and non-sewing blanket projects, consider joining the Busy Hands Group, every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Located at Shiloh Lutheran Church fellowship hall, 703 Lewisville-Vienna Rd, Lewisville, NC 27023. Items donated to sick, needy and shut-ins.
