Joseph W. (Bill) Edwards celebrated his 100th birthday on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Edwards celebrated on Sunday, Aug. 11, with a birthday party at Clemmons UMC where more than 120 people attended. Bill has lived in Clemmons since 1959 and has been involved in many things to improve Clemmons. He was instrumental in getting the Hattie Butner Stagecoach refurbished and located at the village hall. He was involved in the landscaping around Clemmons, as well as the signs at each entrance to town.

Blessings of 100 Years

By Joseph (Bill) W. Edwards

Words are so inadequate when I have so much for which I need to give thanks.

Never did this little lump of clay dream that the Lord would leave me here on his big wonderful world for so long.

He has also showered me during my sojourn with blessings, too many to count. All you friends are but one example. The people who have left their footprints on my heart when they crossed my path.

I do pray the Lord can tell how much I’ve loved all the beauty he has placed on the Earth. I have tried to take what he’s given me and make each place I’ve lived a bit more beautiful than I found it.

Life has been good to me and I am most grateful and thankful for every moment of it; my cup runneth over.

My advice to enjoy life to the fullest is to count your garden by the flowers, never by the leaves that fall.  Count your days by golden hours, never mind the clouds at all. Count your nights by stars, not shadows.  Count your life by smiles, not tears and with joy on every birthday. Count your age by friends, not years.

Now may all your tomorrows be fashioned with joy. Sprinkled with dreams and touched by the miracle of God’s love.
