Children’s programs:
Children’s story times: Join in for great books, finger plays, songs and crafts. Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for toddlers (ages 18 months-3 years), Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for preschoolers (ages 3-5).
Chess Club: Come join the Clemmons Branch Library to play the game of kings. Chess sets will be provided so bring your moves. Open to beginners and players with all levels of expertise. For to ages 7-17. Upcoming meetings will be on Monday, Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. and on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m.
Adult programs:
Emergency Planning and Disaster Kits: If disaster were to strike today, would you be prepared? On Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. the Clemmons Branch Library will host a presentation on emergency planning and disaster kits. Learn how to be ready for worst-case scenarios. Who Are The Igbo?: On Thursday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. get an introduction to the culture of the Igbo people in Nigeria. Presented by the Museum of Anthropology.
Book Lovers’ Club: The Clemmons Branch Library’s Book Lovers’ Club meets every first Monday of the month (unless the date falls on a holiday). Join this dynamic group for a great discussion of a selected title. Free and open to the public. The next meeting will be on Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion of “Speak No Evil” by Uzodinma Iweala — the library’s “On The Same Page” book.
Clemmons Cookin’ Club: If you enjoy cooking, come join the Clemmons Cookin’ Club. Come in and choose a recipe from a pre-selected book and a copy will be made for you. Bring in the finished dish on the day of the meeting to share with other members. Expand your palate by tasting all the recipes, connect with people who enjoy cooking and discuss the recipes. Call the library at 336-703-2920 if you have questions. The program will last about one hour. The club’s next meeting is at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the auditorium at 3554 Clemmons Road. Clemmons Republican Club
The Clemmons Republican Club is sponsoring a special event to observe this year’s Constitution Day at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Broyhill Office Suites, next to the Clemmons Library. Former Forsyth County Republican Party Chairman Scott Cumbie will give a presentation on the history and contemporary relevance of the U.S. Constitution. Free and open to the public.
9/11 remembrance
A 9/11 service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 9:30 a.m. at the James Street Fire Station.
CPC hosts blood drive
Clemmons Presbyterian Church will host a blood drive on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 2:30-6:45 p.m.
Walk-ins can be accommodated but things run more smoothly for individual donors and the drive as a whole if you have an appointment. You may get an appointment from blood drive coordinator Sam Boger at 336-830-4034 or at the Red Cross website at www.redcrossblood.org. United 19 Youth Conference at Agape Faith Church
Agape Faith Church is hosting its annual United 19 Youth Conference on Sept. 20-21. Events include Friday night service, after-party, Saturday morning service, break-out sessions, and a Saturday night service. The focus of the conference will be on our authority in Christ Jesus and overcoming obstacles. This event will also feature ninja-themed challenges and activities, including a ninja warrior course, food trucks, a contest for hometown heroes, plus special American Ninja Warrior guests Daniel Gil (the Kingdom Ninja) and Hunter Roland (the Positive Ninja). You’ll get to hear from Daniel Gil, get photos and autographs, and watch him run the course. The course will also be open to the public.

Village Farmers Market
Jewelry, gem, mineral and fossil show and sale
The Forsyth Gem & Mineral Club, Inc will host its 48th annual Jewelry, Gem, Mineral, and Fossil Show & Sale on Sept. 6-8 at the Educational Building at Winston-Salem Fairgrounds. Show hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7; noon- 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8.
The theme of this year’s event is Minerals, Gems, and Fossils of Mexico. The show will feature 28 dealers, demonstrations, educational exhibits and presentations on Saturday by Dr. Robert Lauf. Hourly door prize drawings will be held for $20 gift certificates for use at the show.
Parking is free — enter at Gate 9 off 27th Street. Admission is $3 for adults, children thru 12th grade are free with accompanying adult.

Antique road extravaganza
Carillon Assisted Living of Clemmons is partnering with the Clemmons School Memorabilia Cabinet Fund for an antique road extravaganza from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7. Bring your antiques to be appraised or purchase tickets for several raffles to be held that day. All proceeds from the ticket sales will be contributed to the cabinet fund. The cabinet is under construction by Poindexter Lumber Co., and plans are for the cabinet to be installed in early fall in Historic Broyhill (the former Clemmons School Building). Memorabilia is also being collected to be displayed in the cabinet so contact the committee about any memorabilia you would like to donate.

Grief Share at Clemmons Presbyterian
Clemmons Presbyterian Church will offer a Grief Share Series beginning Sunday, Sept. 8, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the church parlor. Grief Share is a Christ-centered program designed to help those mourning the loss of a loved one. The program consists of videos, discussion and a personal workbook. The program lasts for 13 weeks, but each session is standalone and not dependent on previous sessions. No pre-registration is required and is open to the public. Cost is $15 for the workbook. Powerful Tools for Caregivers course
Registration is now underway for Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a six-week course for anyone caring for a loved one who is frail or ill. Classes will take place on Thursdays from Sept. 12-Oct. 17 from 6-8 p.m. at Trinity Elms in Clemmons. There is no charge, but donations are accepted. Registration is required. Classes are sponsored by the Shepherd’s Centers of Greater Winston-Salem, Family Caregiver Support Program, Senior Services, SECU Family House, and Daybreak Respite Program. GriefShare program at Clemmons UMC
Clemmons United Methodist Church will begin a new 13-week series of GriefShare, a grief recovery seminar and grief support group on Monday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. in the ministry center. If you or someone you know is grieving the loss of a loved one, whether it be a parent, child, spouse or sibling, you are invited. Grief is easier when shared. Newcomers and Neighbors meeting
Newcomers and Neighbors of the greater Winston-Salem area holds its monthly meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Coffee and social time is at 9:45 a.m. with meeting to follow. Jam sessions
Farmington Community Center at 1723 Farmington Road in Mocksville hosts a country music and gospel only jam session every Thursday night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The center also hosts a bluegrass jam session every Monday night from 7-9 p.m. Bring whatever instrument you play and join the fun. Cover charge for listeners $2, players are free.
Kiwanis Club
The Clemmons Kiwanis Club meets at the Trinity Elms Health & Rehab facility at 7449 Fair Oaks Dr. in Clemmons. The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. Meeting lasts one hour. Call 703- 2921 for any other information.
Clemmons Civic Club
Clemmons Civic Club, one of the areas oldest community organizations, is now open to both men and women interested in serving the Clemmons community. Meeting are held in the civic club building on Middlebrook Drive the fourth Thursday of the month beginning with dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by an informative program.
