Master of ceremonies Cameron Kent, along with the WXII Raindrops, Ron Willard, Gary Strickland, Bryan Peterson, Velvet McGregor along with John Wayne (Jake Thorne) and professional comedians Tara Brown, Jim Gossett and headliner Jimmie JJ Walker, roasted Winston-Salem businessman Mike Swain of Cahill and Swain in a Rotary of Western Forsyth comedy event to benefit at-risk children. Mike Swain has helped start tutoring programs for at-risk children at three different elementary schools and has donated thousands of hours to tutoring children. The event was held at Bermuda Run Country Club and was sold out. David Fowler of Modern Automotive presented Swain with the Modern Chevrolet of the Year Award. President Gene Blackwelder said, “We wanted to do a high-profile event to engage our community in supporting programs for at-risk children. This event generated money, TV and social media visibility for the cause and inspired additional people to volunteer in the school system. This is Rotary in action.”
