Couriering the area this week in 1978 – The Clemmons Community Development Council discussed three area zoning petitions at its meeting but it took no action on any of them.

The Forsyth County Library system staff was preparing a proposal for the county to lease library space in the Clemmons Village Shopping Center on U.S. 158.

Miss Becky McGowan, of Clemmons, was installed as Worthy Adviser of the Order of Rainbow at the Masonic Temple in Winston-Salem.

Bluebonnet Lane, in Rollingreen Village, was recognized as the “Street of the Month” for September. The street was selected by the Clemmons Jaycees.

Dr. Jim Hampton Day was held at the Lewisville Community Center with a special open house. About 350 people attended.

West Forsyth senior varsity football standout, Butch Beckner, won “Titan of the Week” honors.

United Savings and Loan Bank opened in Lewisville. Branch manager was Bob Faircloth. Faye Cooper and Phyllis A. Meares were the bank tellers.

West Forsyth High School put out its first printed school newspaper named the “Zephyr.” Adviser Jim Coghill had been waiting for six years for that day. The staff included Chris Davis, editor; Ellen Smith, news editor; Allison Honeycutt, editorial director; Kelley Dixon, feature editor; Steve Girard, sports editor; Debbie Seamon and Carol Turner, graphic art and layout editor; Elizabeth Wampler and Beth Sparks, advertising managers; Kelly Sanford, photography editor; Frankie Jennings, circulation manager and Kay Smith, typist.

More than 100 people turned out for the dedication of Lewisville’s new community center. The two-story building was built almost exactly in the middle of the town.

A Lewisville post office employee was one of five people being considered for the vacant postmaster position now being filled by Ernest Kelly, the second temporary officer in charge since the retirement of Tom Trivette, former postmaster.

The Clemmons Cowboys football team shut out Elkin with a score of 24-0. Outstanding offensive players were Todd Hayes, Ross Crater, Chris Ward and Todd Hedrick. Outstanding defensive players were Ron Lovelace, Randy Smith and Daniel Andrews. Other standouts were Andy Wachter and Tad Lehner

Three local women athletes were signed to participate in basketball and tennis at Montreat-Anderson College. They are Debra Koontz of Clemmons and Dorcas Lyalls of Pfafftown for women’s basketball and Pam Koontz for women’s tennis.
