Clemmons UMC fall event brings bargains today, help for others tomorrow

Shoppers are in for a treat this weekend when they attend the third annual CUMC Fall Bazaar and Yard Sale. Bargains span two floors at the church, located at 3700 Clemmons Road near the intersection of Lewisville-Clemmons Road. The event will run from 8 a.m to 7 p.m on Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Proceeds from the event help support CUMC ministries and missions. Admission is free.
“It’s an event that the community has learned to anticipate,” notes Rosanne Peacock, co-chair of the event, and it’s no wonder. Attendees will find a wide variety of gently used items at bargain prices on women’s, children and men’s clothing to baby items, toys, books, furniture, holiday decorations, household items and “elegant junque,” electronics, sporting goods, lawn equipment and tools. Those looking for a tasty way to top off their experience will enjoy the Bakery and Treats Shoppe. Cash and checks are accepted.
The fundraiser has grown significantly each year, with proceeds going to missions that support families in need as well as disaster relief efforts in the U. S and abroad. For volunteers who give hundreds of hours as well as donating items for the sale it’s a labor of love, knowing they are helping families here at home and afar.
In a gesture that touched everyone involved, church member and beloved artist Bill Edwards, who turned 100 this year, donated one of his original watercolors for the event’s silent auction, which runs from 8 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. Friday evening. “Edwards’ art has been featured on holiday cards sold by the church’s Methodist Women’s group for a number of years, so this brings a whole new level of excitement to our silent auction,” says Peacock. In addition, for all the volunteers who are on this mission, there’s the added pleasure of camaraderie that happens when people work together. Co-chairs Peacock, Deanna Jester and Priscilla Robinette and the congregation of CUMC invite the community to join the fun, fellowship and bargain shopping this weekend.
