Couriering the area this week in 1969 — Miss Libby Phelps was crowned Queen of the Fall Festival in Lewisville. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Manuel Phillips of Clemmons and a sophomore at West Forsyth High School.

The members of the recently organized Clemmons VFW chapter chose a name for the organization at their meeting. The chapter was officially named Brewer-Lowder-McCuiston VFW Post No. 9010.

A work of art by Betty Timmerman, of Clemmons, was selected for showing in the juried section of the fifth annual “Art on Paper” exhibit at Weatherspoon Art Gallery of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Governor Bob Scott announced the appointment of the 15 members to the board of directors of the North Carolina Zoological Authority. Among those named was Mrs. Jim Church of Clemmons.

David Alexander, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Alexander, received the Gold Contest Award for the month of October from Boy Scout Troop 712.

Vicky McNeill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hurley McNeill of Clemmons, was named, “Miss Club Haven Shopping Center.”

Miss Susan Lawrence, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney M. Lawrence, entered pottery in the Piedmont Craftsmen’s Fair at the Coliseum. She had made the pottery at West Forsyth High School under the direction of Mrs. Van Wagenheim, the art teacher. Her entry was chosen as outstanding pottery.

Contestants in the Miss Fall Festival Contest were Connie Dull, Donna Black, 1968 Festival Queen Billie Joyce, 1969 Festival Queen Libby Phelps and Sandra Mock.

John Craft was elected Honorary Mayor of Lewisville during the Autumn Festival. A total of 22,840 votes were cast for all three candidates.

Avery L. Pike, son of Mrs. Kathleen Holt, was promoted to Army staff sergeant while serving with the U.S. Army Material Command-Europe, near Zgeibrucken, Germany.

Carol Myers was elected secretary-treasurer of the Forsyth County 4-H County Council. Carol is 13 years old and a very active member of the Clemmons community 4-H club.

Mark Cheek led the Cowboys Pee Wee team to victory by running a touchdown and passed to Kevin Binkley for another. In the final minute of the game, the Walnut Cove Lions were on the 10-yard line and Cheek intercepted, thus keeping them from scoring.

The West Forsyth High School Dramatics Department presented its first major production of the year — “The Girl of the Golden West” by David Belasco.

Margaret Ruth “Peggy”Bolick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil F. Bolick of Clemmons, was named to the dean’s list at Duke University on the basis of high academic standing.
