Children’s programs

Children’s story times: Join in for great books, finger plays, songs and crafts. Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for toddlers (ages 18 months-3 years), Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for preschoolers (ages 3-5).

Chess Club: Come join the Clemmons Branch Library to play the game of kings. Chess sets will be provided so bring your moves. Open to beginners and players with all levels of expertise. For to ages 7-17. The next meeting will be on Monday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m.

Papercrafturday: Join the Clemmons Branch Library all day on Saturday, Nov. 23, to create papercrafts. Try your hand at origami, collage or scrapbooking. Find inspiration from a collection of crafting books or create from your imagination. All supplies provided. All ages welcome.

National Cookie Day: They’re small, delicious and come in almost every flavor — but how did cookies get their start? Join the Clemmons Branch Library on Dec. 4 at 4 p.m. for National Cookie Day to learn more about this classic treat and sample variations from around the world. Open to cookie lovers of all ages. Waivers and registration are required.

Teen programs

Teen and Tween Advisory Board: Want to have a say in your library? Join the Clemmons Branch Library on the first Tuesday of the month if you’re interested in joining the Teen/Tween Advisory Board. Open to grades 6-12. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 4 p.m.

Adult programs

Book Lovers’ Club: The Clemmons Branch Library’s Book Lovers’ Club meets every first Monday of the month (unless the date falls on a holiday). Join this dynamic group for a great discussion of a selected title. Free and open to the public. The next meeting will be on Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion of “The Woman’s Hour” by Elaine Weiss.

Clemmons Cookin’ Club: If you enjoy cooking, come join the Clemmons Cookin’ Club. Come in and choose a recipe from a pre-selected book and a copy will be made for you. Bring in the finished dish on the day of the meeting to share with other members. Expand your palate by tasting all the recipes, connect with people who enjoy cooking and discuss the recipes. Call the library at 336- 703-2920 if you have questions. The program will last about one hour. The next meeting is at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, in the auditorium at 3554 Clemmons Road. Harmony Grove UMC holiday sale

Harmony Grove United Methodist Church will be having its annual holiday/boutique sale from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23.  There will be gift items as well as decor for holidays throughout the year. Free coffee and doughnuts will be available. The sale will be in the fellowship hall behind the church. The church is located at 5041 Styers Ferry Road in Lewisville (behind J. Butler’s). Proceeds will benefit the building fund. Annual Joint Community Thanksgiving Dinner

Centenary United Methodist Church of Clemmons, Alianza Cristiana y Misionera de Clemmons, and Brooks Temple United Methodist Church of Midway, will hold their Annual Joint Community Thanksgiving Dinner at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27.  The meal will be served in the multipurpose building at Centenary United Methodist Church, located at 5280 Hampton Road in Clemmons. A devotional time of praise and thanksgiving will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner being served at 6:30 p.m. The dinner is open to the community and is free of charge.

Free clothes giveaway

There will be a free clothes giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Clemmons. There are no restrictions and everyone is welcome to participate. Clothes and shoes for kids, teens, and adults will be available. Donations can also be dropped off at this time. Those with emergency needs for clothing should call the church at 336-766-5987. This is a ministry of the Interfaith Alliance of Clemmons and Lewisville. Centenary UMC is located at 5280 Hampton Road in Clemmons.     

‘The Gospel According to Scrooge’

Redland Church will present “The Gospel According to Scrooge” on Dec. 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 8 at 2 and 7 p.m. It is a musical drama based on “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens and presented by Redland Arts.

Community shredding event

Clean out for the holidays by throwing out those old documents. Local Girl Scout troops will sponsor a community shredding event from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23. Shredding will take place on Lewisville-Clemmons Road across from West Forsyth High School. Pioneer Technology Group will provide secure document destruction for a suggested donation of $5 per box or bag. Proceeds will be used by the Girl Scouts to fund service projects in their community and troop activities. The Scouts will also be distributing tips on how to avoid identity theft. Shallowford Presbyterian jazz worship service

Shallowford Presbyterian Church will offer a jazz worship service of praise and thanksgiving at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24. Rev. Jeff Sockwell will lead the service, which will include hymns, gospel songs, and spirituals for congregation and choir and communion. Musicians for the service will be Matt Kendrick, string bass; Karen Kendrick, piano; Larry Carman, drums; Dave Reid, clarinet and sax; and Diana Tuffin, vocalist. Clemmons Moravian Christmas Treasures Sale

Join Clemmons Moravian Church for its 12th annual Christmas Treasures Sale from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 7. The sale is stocked with new and gently used Christmas items. There will also be the “All Other Holidays Corner.”

The sale will be held in the Clemmons Moravian Church fellowship hall on Spangenberg Avenue near Clemmons Kitchen.

All proceeds will go to the Clemmons Food Pantry and the building fund. Donations accepted Tuesday, Dec. 3 through Friday, Dec. 6 from 3:30-7 p.m.

Community conversation on aging

Clemmons, Lewisville and Pfafftown area seniors, caregivers and community members are invited to join and share your views about aging in our community. Discussion topics include housing, health care, transportation, caregiving and many more. Refreshments will be provided.

The events will be: Nov. 27, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Clemmons Library, 3554 Clemmons Road, Clemmons; Dec. 2, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Lewisville Library, 6490 Shallowford Road, Lewisville; and Dec. 5, from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Clemmons Civic Club, 2870 Middlebrook Drive, Clemmons.

GriefShare’s showing of ‘Surviving the Holidays’

Clemmons United Methodist Church will be hosting a one-night video showing of GriefShare’s support seminar, “Surviving the Holidays” at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25.

If you are wondering how you will survive the weeks surrounding Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays while you are still grieving a loved one’s death, then plan to attend this one-time session and receive a personal copy of GriefShare’s Holiday Survival Guide.

Jam sessions

Farmington Community Center at 1723 Farmington Road in Mocksville hosts a country music and gospel only jam session every Thursday night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The center also hosts a bluegrass jam session every Monday night from 7-9 p.m. Bring whatever instrument you play and join the fun. Cover charge for listeners $2, players are free.

Kiwanis Club

The Clemmons Kiwanis Club meets at the Trinity Elms Health & Rehab facility at 7449 Fair Oaks Dr. in Clemmons. The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. Meeting lasts one hour. Call 703- 2921 for any other information.

Clemmons Civic Club

Clemmons Civic Club, one of the areas oldest community organizations, is now open to both men and women interested in serving the Clemmons community. Meeting are held in the civic club building on Middlebrook Drive the fourth Thursday of the month beginning with dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by an informative program.  Your first meal is complimentary. Join a community post that supports our veterans and the town of Lewisville. Responsible for the veteran’s memorial and Memorial Day event at the Shallowford Square in Lewisville.
