Couriering the area this week in 1971 — Carl Cook, president of the Clemmons Jaycees, presented W.A. Hunter with the Jaycees Citizen of the Year award at the Village Restaurant in Clemmons.

Officers for the 1972 Lewisville Civic Club were elected at the community center. Those elected were David Rock, president; Leo Harrell, vice-president; Bob Adams, secretary, James Arnold, assistant secretary, Bud Fulton, treasurer; Wilbur Hill, assistant treasurer and Gilmer Binkley and James Wilson, directors.

Children in Mrs. Dorman Williams class at Clemmons Baptist Kindergarten celebrated Thanksgiving in the traditional way wearing paper costumes they had made similar to those the Pilgrims and Indians wore at the first Thanksgiving. Some of the students that were pictured in the paper were Charlie Shumate, Missy Morris, Parrish Dinkins, Billy Fleming, Mark Metzer, Phillip Colbert and Angie Belton.

The homeroom mothers of Clemmons Elementary school PTA held a coffee hour for the school’s teachers in the social room of the Baptist Church. Mrs. George Cook was chairman of the affair. Assisting Mrs. Cook were Mrs. Bruce Stolba and Mrs. Ken Binkley.

Gene Hege, of Lewisville, was preparing for his one-man show in the gallery at Hanes Community Center.

William L. Hyland was, for the third time, selected by his fellow Lewisville Jaycees as Jaycee of the Month for September.

Wiley H. Gunter was chosen by his fellow Lewisville Jaycees as the winner of the Project of the Month award for September.

Clemmons and Sharon 4-H’ers from Southwest Forsyth County took the largest number of awards at the annual Forsyth County 4-H awards night held at the Benton Convention Center. Winners with the “clover power” symbol were David Tucker, Julia Snyder, Carol Myers, Tammie Byrd, Jean Myers, Stanley Rash, James Myers, David Minor, David Spaugh, Debbie Livengood and Melanie Spainhour.

Three West Forsyth gridders were named to the 23-member 1971 All City County Football team. They were interior lineman John Hauser, Clay Vogler on offensive back and Michael Gregg on defense.

The Clemmons Cowboys Junior Pee Wee football team were preparing to play a Viking’s Junior Pee Wee team at Groves Stadium in Winston-Salem.
