Shallowford Christmas programs

Shallowford Presbyterian Church presents an evening of Christmas song with Martha Bassett and Friends at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19. A donation of $15 is suggested. Refreshments will follow.

Shallowford Presbyterian Church will also present a Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22. This beloved service weaves together scripture and song, including carols sung by choir and congregation, beginning with the Genesis story of the Garden of Eden through the prophecies of redemption to the fulfillment of that promise in the birth of Christ.

New Philadelphia Moravian Church Lovefeast services

New Philadelphia Moravian Church is hosting the following Christmas Lovefeast and Candle services:

  • Sunday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. — Children’s Lovefeast and Candle service led by the children and youth, featuring the Nativity story.
  • Sunday, Dec. 22, at 7 p.m. — Congregational Christmas Lovefeast and Candle service
  • Tuesday, Dec. 24, at 4:30 p.m. — Christmas Lovefeast and Candle service
  • Tuesday, Dec. 24, at 8 p.m. – Christmas Lovefeast and Candle service

It is suggested to arrive early for the evening Lovefeast services. Band prelude begins prior to each service.

Free clothes giveaway

There will be a free clothes giveaway at the Centenary United Methodist Church Clemmons from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Dec. 14. There are no restrictions, everyone is welcome to participate. Clothes and shoes for kids, teens and adults will be available. Donations can also be dropped off at this time (for the winter, coats, shoes, and sweaters are especially needed). Those with emergency needs for clothing should call the church at 336-766-5987. This is a ministry of the Interfaith Alliance of Clemmons and Lewisville. Centenary UMC is located at 5280 Hampton Road in Clemmons.

Annual sock sale

Goler Memorial AME Zion Church Missionary Society will be sponsoring the 6th Annual Holiday Sock Sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14 at the Goler Enrichment Center at 630 N. Patterson Ave. in Winston-Salem (corner of North Patterson Avenue and 7th Street).
Packaged first-quality socks will be for sale, and all socks are $1 a pair, including Dickies, Dockers and Saucony, which are valued up to $16 a pair). Special discounts for multiple quantities purchased.  Visit the country store for Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers. Moravian open house

A Moravian Christmas open house will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, at Unity Moravian Church. This open house and craft fair is free to everyone. New for this year are hands-on craft activities for kids, dress-up fun and photo opportunities. Experience the history, music and traditions of the Moravians, one of the oldest Protestant churches in the world. Buy unique gifts, chicken pies and baked goods for the holidays. Enjoy free sugar cake, cookies, hot cocoa, and lovefeast coffee. Stay for the children’s lovefeast at 4:30 p.m., a noisy and joyous worship experience where you can share in a symbolic meal, become part of the Christmas story, and sing carols. Come as you are.
• 3 p.m.: Moravian Christmas (crafts, baked goods, snacks, demonstrations of Moravian traditions)
• 4:15 p.m.: The Christmas Putz (presentation of Christmas nativity scenes)
• 4:30 p.m.: Interactive lovefeast and candle service begins

‘The Gospel According to Scrooge’

Redland Church will present “The Gospel According to Scrooge” on Dec. 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 8 at 2 and 7 p.m. It is a musical drama based on “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens and presented by Redland Arts.

Clemmons Moravian Christmas Treasures Sale

Join Clemmons Moravian Church for its 12th annual Christmas Treasures Sale from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 7. The sale is stocked with new and gently used Christmas items. There will also be the “All Other Holidays Corner.”

The sale will be held in the Clemmons Moravian Church fellowship hall on Spangenberg Avenue near Clemmons Kitchen.

Community conversation on aging

Clemmons, Lewisville and Pfafftown area seniors, caregivers and community members are invited to join and share your views about aging in our community. Discussion topics include housing, health care, transportation, caregiving and many more. Refreshments will be provided.

Jam sessions

Farmington Community Center at 1723 Farmington Road in Mocksville hosts a country music and gospel only jam session every Thursday night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The center also hosts a bluegrass jam session every Monday night from 7-9 p.m. Bring whatever instrument you play and join the fun. Cover charge for listeners $2, players are free.

Kiwanis Club

The Clemmons Kiwanis Club meets at the Trinity Elms Health & Rehab facility at 7449 Fair Oaks Dr. in Clemmons. The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. Meeting lasts one hour. Call 703- 2921 for any other information.

Clemmons Civic Club

Clemmons Civic Club, one of the areas oldest community organizations, is now open to both men and women interested in serving the Clemmons community. Meeting are held in the civic club building on Middlebrook Drive the fourth Thursday of the month beginning with dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by an informative program.  Your first meal is complimentary. Join a community post that supports our veterans and the town of Lewisville. Responsible for the veteran’s memorial and Memorial Day event at the Shallowford Square in Lewisville. The Clemmons Food Pantry, now located at 2585 Old Glory Road, Suite 109, Clemmons, is open Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. People may receive services or drop off donations at these times. www.clemmonsfoodpantry.org
