Kitchi D. Joyce, of Clemmons, made the honors list during the first trimester of her sophomore year at Chatham Hall, a girls college preparatory boarding school in Chatham, Virginia.

Senior inductees in West Forsyth High School’s National Honor Society were Paul Boulifard, Becky Brookshire, Lynn Drake, David Etchison, Lisa Lloyd, Shannon McGinnis, Anna Oliver, Cathy Osborne, Melissa Parks, Tina Self and Wendy Shelton.

Clara Jean Pickney, of Clemmons, received her certified public accountant’s certificate from the state board of CPA examiners. She was among 51 people receiving their CPA certification.

Gravely International promoted Danny Ritter, a 15-year veteran of the research and development lab, to field service engineer in marketing.

William R. Nifong, of Clemmons, was among 12 students at Duke University to be initiated into the Phi Beta Kappa, national scholastic honor fraternity. Nifong is the son of Agnes and Roy Nifong of Clemmons and a graduate of West Forsyth High School.

Janet Banzhof, of Clemmons, was the Courier’s, “Cook of the Week.” Some of her recipes were Holly Candy, Chicken Marengo, Oyster Spread, Christmas Punch, Hot Crab Spread and Apple-Cream Cheese Spread.

The West Forsyth girls’ varsity basketball team got off on the right foot by defeating Glenn 43-38 in the season opener.

Opening night jitters and poor first-half shooting caused West Forsyth to drop an 85-58 decision to Glenn in boys’ varsity basketball action.

The Friends of Lewisville Library held their first yard sale to benefit the library and raised $600.

Kathryn L. Marsh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Marsh of Clemmons and a student at N.C. State University, began student teaching in mathematics this semester. She was doing her student teaching at Enloe High School.

Steve Dillon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harrell Dillon, attended the 67^th National 4-H Congress in Chicago. Dillon was named state winner in the 4-H Dairy Industry project area.

Richard Hanes emerged as the winner of the football contest. He missed five out of 25 games. Drew Hill took second place but had to survive a tiebreaker count. He missed six games along with Tommy Smith.

Wayne Hege received his Eagle Scout award in a special court of honor at Clemmons Moravian Church. He was a member of Troop 736 and was a 1988 graduate of West Forsyth High School. His parents are Martha Hege of Lewisville and Richard Hege of Advance.
