Events for the week of Dec. 19.

Holiday closings:

All Forsyth County Public Library locations will be closed on Dec. 24, 25 and 26. The library will re-open with normal hours on Dec. 27.

Children’s programs:

No Children’s story times: There will be no children’s story times for the rest of 2019. Story times will resume in January 2020.

Papercrafturday: Join the Clemmons Branch Library all day on Saturday, Dec. 28, to create papercrafts. Try your hand at origami, collage or scrapbooking. Find inspiration from a collection of crafting books or create from your imagination. All supplies provided. All ages welcome.

Sensory-Friendly Saturday Movie: On Saturday, Dec. 28, at 1:30 p.m., all are welcome to join in the library auditorium to watch a movie.  There will be low lighting (dim lights will remain on), the sound will be on but turned down so that it is not too loud, and English subtitles will be turned on. You are free to move around and make noise during the films in a judgement-free zone.

Adult programs:

Book Lovers’ Club: The Clemmons Branch Library’s Book Lovers’ Club meets every first Monday of the month (unless the date falls on a holiday). Join this dynamic group for a great discussion of a selected title. Free and open to the public. The next meeting will be on Jan. 6, at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion of “Still Life” by Louise Penny.

Clemmons Cookin’ Club: If you enjoy cooking, come join the Clemmons Cookin’ Club. Come in and choose a recipe from a pre-selected book a copy will be made for you. Bring in the finished dish on the day of the meeting to share with other members. Expand your palate by tasting all the recipes, connect with people who enjoy cooking and discuss the recipes. Call the library at 336- 703-2920 if you have questions. The program will last about one hour. The club’s next meeting is at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, in the auditorium at 3554 Clemmons Road. Hope Moravian Church Christmas Lovefeast services

Hope Moravian Church will host two candlelight Lovefeast services:

• Sunday, Dec. 22 — Christmas Lovefeast and candle service at 4 p.m. (band prelude 3:15 p.m.)

• Tuesday, Dec. 24 — Christmas Eve Lovefeast and candle service at 4 p.m. (band prelude 3:15 p.m.)

No nursery will be available. All children are invited to join the services.

Christmas program at New Hope AME Zion

The Christian education department of New Hope AME Zion Church will sponsor its Christmas program at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23. The program will consist of the children, youth and adults participating in this wonderful event. All are invited to come and share in the praises of Christmas.

Centenary UMC Christmas cantata

On Dec. 22, the choir of the Centenary United Methodist Church, Clemmons, will present its 2019 Christmas cantata entitled “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” Services begin at 10:45 a.m. Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. A time of fellowship, with coffee and refreshments, is held between services. Introduction to West Forsyth High School

“Explore the Possibilities” introduction to West Forsyth High School program will be held at 6 p.m. on Jan. 9 in the Anderson Performing Arts Center Auditorium. Rising freshman in the class of 2024 and those that will be new to West Forsyth are invited to attend. Come learn about the offerings West has in academics, athletics and extracurricular activities.

Parents of current and rising students are encouraged to attend a school-wide meeting at 6 p.m. on Jan. 29 to learn registration information particular to West.

Shallowford Christmas programs

Shallowford Presbyterian Church presents an evening of Christmas song with Martha Bassett and Friends at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19. A donation of $15 is suggested. Refreshments will follow.

Shallowford Presbyterian Church will also present a Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22. This beloved service weaves together scripture and song, including carols sung by choir and congregation, beginning with the Genesis story of the Garden of Eden through the prophecies of redemption to the fulfillment of that promise in the birth of Christ.

New Philadelphia Moravian Church Lovefeast services

New Philadelphia Moravian Church is hosting the following Christmas Lovefeast and Candle services:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 24, at 4:30 p.m. — Christmas Lovefeast and Candle service

Newcomers and Neighbors meeting

Newcomers and Neighbors of the greater Winston-Salem area holds its monthly meeting on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Coffee and social time is at 9:45 a.m. with meeting to follow. Jam sessions

Farmington Community Center at 1723 Farmington Road in Mocksville hosts a country music and gospel only jam session every Thursday night from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The center also hosts a bluegrass jam session every Monday night from 7-9 p.m. Bring whatever instrument you play and join the fun. Cover charge for listeners $2, players are free.

Kiwanis Club

The Clemmons Kiwanis Club meets at the Trinity Elms Health & Rehab facility at 7449 Fair Oaks Dr. in Clemmons. The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. Meeting lasts one hour. Call 703- 2921 for any other information.

Clemmons Civic Club

Clemmons Civic Club, one of the areas oldest community organizations, is now open to both men and women interested in serving the Clemmons community. Meeting are held in the civic club building on Middlebrook Drive the fourth Thursday of the month beginning with dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by an informative program.  Your first meal is complimentary. Lewisville American Legion Post 522

Join a community post that supports our veterans and the town of Lewisville. Responsible for the veteran’s memorial and Memorial Day event at the Shallowford Square in Lewisville. Clemmons Food Pantry

The Clemmons Food Pantry, now located at 2585 Old Glory Road, Suite 109, Clemmons, is open Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m. People may receive services or drop off donations at these times. www.clemmonsfoodpantry.org

Cross Stitching at Shiloh Lutheran

If you enjoy needle crafting, knit, cross-stitch, crochet and non-sewing blanket projects, consider joining the Busy Hands Group, every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Located at Shiloh Lutheran Church fellowship hall, 703 Lewisville-Vienna Rd, Lewisville, NC 27023. Items donated to sick, needy and shut-ins.
