Keith Vernon Bess

Mr. Keith Vernon Bess, 63, of Lewisville, passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2019. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 11, 1956, to Vernon Thomas Bess and Alice Hixt Bess. Keith loved fishing, classic cars, airshows and spending time with his family, especially his three grandsons. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and his master’s degree from Liberty University, with extra courses at Vintage Bible College with the goal of helping others through Christian ministry. Keith helped others with counseling through the Celebrate Recovery Ministry. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and brother who was devoted to his family.

Preceding him in death is his father, Vernon Thomas Bess; his mother-in-law, Lilly Hanson; and his grandparents. Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Alice Hixt Bess; his high school sweetheart and wife of 43 years, Diana Hanson Bess; two daughters, Jennifer Bailiff (Mike) and Kelly Randall (Justin); three grandsons: Wyatt, Wesley, and Rowan; a sister, Laura Ayers (Jerry); a brother, Andrew Bess (Virginia); father-in-law, Bill Hanson; brother-in-law, Randy Hanson; one niece; and four nephews.

A funeral service was held at 2 pm. Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at Fairview Moravian Church, officiated by Rev. Jeff Coppage and Rev. Luke Bell. Interment followed at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Andrew Cameron

Andrew Cameron died Dec. 27, 2019, after a short illness at the VA Hospital in Durham. He received the best possible care from all the doctors, nurses and staff. Andrew was born in Leominster, Massachusetts, on Sept. 26, 1971. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1993. Upon graduation, he received a commission in the U.S. Navy. He served for 20 years, both on active duty and in the active reserves, retiring as a commander. He also spent 14 years with the Greensboro Police Department as both a patrol officer and a detective. He is survived by his two daughters, Rachel and Sarah Cameron in Kernersville; his parents, Don and Mary Cameron in Clemmons; his sister, Leigh Cameron Atkins (Derick); his nephew, Cameron Atkins; and the mother of his daughters, Mabel Cameron. There will be a brief military ceremony and internment at the National Cemetery Annex in Salisbury at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10. The Cameron family will be receiving friends and family that afternoon from 3-5 p.m. at their home in Clemmons.

Frances Linwood Cartner

Frances Linwood Cartner passed away in Clemmons on Dec. 29, 2019, at the age of 95. She was born in Iredell County on Jan. 15, 1924, to the late Silas H. and Roby Baggarly Cartner. Frances graduated from Salem College then went on to attend the School of Sacred Music of Union Theological Seminary in New York. She played the organ at many churches in the area including North Winston Baptist, First Baptist Church of Rockingham, and Clemmons First Baptist. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, S.V. Cartner. Frances leaves behind her niece, Lisa Hipp, nephew, Stuart Cartner, and 3 great-nephews. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in the mausoleum.

Jack Andrew Davis

Mr. Jack Andrew Davis, 88, of Clemmons, passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, at his home. He was born Dec. 9, 1931, in Forsyth County to Allen Y. and Katherine Frankenfield Davis. Mr. Davis was a graduate of Gray High School and Wake Forest University. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Tingey. He was a member of Clemmons First Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and on several committees. Mr. Davis was also an active member of the Carl Gregory Sunday School Class. He retired from Western Electric (AT&T) after 34 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family and was also an avid gardener. Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Betty Hutchens Davis; a daughter, Kathy Steelman of Windsor, Virginia; a son, Kyle Davis (Rita) of Reidsville; a grandson, Jonathan Davis of Reidsville; a brother, Parke Davis (Suzanne) of Clemmons and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at Clemmons First Baptist Church with Rev. Don Harvey officiating. Burial followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. Thelma Spainhour Dinkins

Mrs. Thelma Spainhour Dinkins, 90, passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, at her home. She was born in Forsyth County on July 26, 1929, to the late James Marvin and Flora Dull Spainhour. Mrs. Dinkins was a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 35 years of service. She enjoyed quilting and working in her flower beds and yard. Preceding her in death was her husband, Ace Jackson “Jack” Dinkins; three brothers and three sisters. Surviving is her daughter, Phyllis Greene (Robert); two grandsons, Chris Greene and Zach Greene (Morgan); two great-grandsons, Ace Jackson Greene and Isaac Paul Greene; two step-great-granddaughters, Hannah Shore and Emma Shore; two brothers, Paul Ray Spainhour (Grace) and Dallas Spainhour; sister, Lorene Groce (Ralph); also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020, at Shiloh Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. John Beeg officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. Jerry Martin Evans Sr.

Mr. Jerry Martin Evans, Sr., 85, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, at Forsyth Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Jerry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was born in Mecklenburg County on March 18, 1934, to Richard and Catherine Mullis Evans. Jerry was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He was also the proud owner of Silbert & Wainer Jewelers in Winston-Salem. Jerry’s greatest loves in life were Jesus Christ; his wife, Kelly; family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Martin Evans Jr.; and one brother, Bill Flow. Surviving are his loving wife of 66 years, Kelly Evans; one daughter, Sheena Poe (Chris); one daughter-in-law, Martha Evans; one granddaughter, Melissa Evans; two brothers, Tom Flowe (Lynda) and Dick Evans (Harriet); one sister, Anne Austin; many nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Earl Driggers. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, at Clemmons First Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Evans and Rev. Don Harvey officiating. Interment followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family received friends from noon-1:30 p.m. at Clemmons First Baptist Church. Linville ‘Wennie’ Ray Todd

Mr. Linville “Wennie” Ray Todd, 80, passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Forsyth County on May 31, 1939, to the late Claude William and Ophelia Luper Todd. Mr. Todd retired from Piedmont Airlines as a mechanic with several years of service. Most of all he was a family man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Preceding him in death was his wife, Margaret Smith Todd and a sister, Susan Todd. Surviving are his children, son, Derek Todd (Paige); son, Scott Todd; daughter, Amy Todd Russell (Allen) and a son, Doug Todd (April); five grandchildren, Drew Todd, Alex Swink, Brittany Ziglar (Seth), Garret Todd, and Alex Russell; three great-grandchildren, Brycen, Alice, and Heavenly Rose; brother, David Todd; sister, Joe Ann Todd Ogburn (Pete); also surviving are several nieces and nephews and special friends, Van and Amy Swink.  A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. The family received friends following the service.
