Children’s programs

Children’s story times: Join in for great books, finger plays, songs and crafts. Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. for toddlers (ages 18 months-3 years), Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for preschoolers (ages 3-5).

Tinker Tuesday: At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, make creations out of Legos, K’nex, Lincoln Logs and Marble Maze materials and see if you can solve this month’s building challenge. All ages welcome. Small parts may not be suitable for small children.

Teen programs

Lunar New Year: Join the Clemmons Branch Library at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, to learn about the traditions of the Lunar/Chinese New Year and make an origami rat and good luck banners to hang in your room. All supplies provided. No registration needed. Waivers required for snacks.

Adult programs

Board games: At 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, join in for an exciting hour of board games. Bring your favorite game or play one of the library’s. All ages welcome.

Book Lovers’ Club: The Clemmons Branch Library’s Book Lovers’ Club meets every first Monday of the month (unless the date falls on a holiday). Join this dynamic group for a great discussion of a selected title. Free and open to the public. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 3 with a discussion of “Lady in the Lake” by Laura Lippman.

History of Jazz: At 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, the library will host a lecture and performance by master flutist, jazz historian, and educator Galen Abdur-Razzaq about the history of jazz music. He will also play select pieces on his flute. All ages are welcome.

Walters to appear at Clemmons Republican Club meeting

The Clemmons Republican Club is sponsoring a town hall event featuring 10th District Republican Congressional candidate Ralf Walters.

Walters will participate in a lively question and answer session with guests. The event is free and open to the public. Join in from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, in the Clemmons Library auditorium. Shallowford Series Concerts

The 33rd season of Shallowford Series Concerts presented by Shallowford Presbyterian Church in collaboration with the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, will open at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, at Shallowford Presbyterian Church. The three concerts in this year’s series feature instrumentalists from the string and guitar studios of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

Sunday, Jan. 19, 3 p.m. “Last Expressions” presents the UNCSA String Quartet performing the two final string quartets by Franz Josef Haydn (String Quartet No. 2 in D minor, Op. 76 “Fifths”) and Felix Mendelssohn (String Quartet No. 6 in F minor, Op. 80). Each of these works demonstrates strong characteristics of these two masters in the final period of their creative output. Performers are Luca Kevorkian, violin; Bella Ward, violin; Julian Smart, viola; and Adithya Muralidharan, cello.

All concerts are free to the public and followed by a reception honoring the performers.

Clemmons Presbyterian to host afternoon GriefShare

Clemmons Presbyterian Church will offer a GriefShare series beginning Jan. 12 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. GriefShare is a Christ-centered program designed to help those mourning the loss of a loved one. The program consists of videos, discussion and a personal workbook and will last for 13 weeks. No pre-registration is required. This is open to the public. Cost is $15 for the workbook. GriefShare at Clemmons UMC

Clemmons United Methodist Church will begin a new 13-week series of GriefShare, a grief recovery seminar and group support group, at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, in the ministry center. If you or someone you know is grieving the loss of a loved one, whether it be a parent, child, spouse or sibling, you are invited to join. Southwest Forsyth Little League Baseball reunion

The original SWFLL (South Fork, Clemmons, Lewisville, Jonestown) Little League baseball is having a reunion on Jan. 25. Any player, manager, coach, board member or guests that played/participated in the 1970s thru the early 1980s are cordially invited and encouraged to attend. The event will be held in the Ivy Room at The Village Inn in Clemmons. Feel free to bring any memorabilia, programs or souvenirs with you. Starting time is 5 p.m. until, and the cost is $8 per person to cover the venue expense, $11 per person if paying at the door. To prepay and register, send funds to falcon@triad.rr.com.
