Couriering the area this week in 1989 — Senator Ted Kaplan was the guest speaker at the Clemmons Community Development Committee at its meeting.

Wesley Everett Shoaf, a junior at West Forsyth High School, was selected to serve as a cultural ambassador to West Germany. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Shoaf of Clemmons.

Army Reserve Pvt. 1st Class Luke M. Lael, son of Gloria M. Lael of Clemmons, completed training at the U.S. Army Infantry School at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Lael is a 1982 graduate of West Forsyth High School.

Sally Atkinson, of Clemmons, was featured as the “Cook of the Week” in the Clemmons Courier. Some of her recipes were for Coconut Pie, Brownies, Jewish Coffee Cake, Orange Kiss-Me Cake, Coconut Mist Cake and Potato Casserole.

The West Forsyth boys varsity basketball team bounced back and beat the North Davidson Knights with a 60-57 win.

The West Forsyth girls swim team improved its record to 5-0 with a 108-47 win over Rockingham County. The Titan boys’ squad also scored a victory by beating Rockingham with a score of 96-53. Standouts for the boys were Scott Falin and Andy Davis.

Navy Ensign Joseph Davis, son of Joyce A. Hill, of Pfafftown, completed the basic surface warfare officer’s course.

A Court of Awards was held for Girl Scout Troop 437. Receiving the Gold Leadership pin and Career Exploration awards were Nicki Bettini, Frances Dodson, Andrea Kovalak, Martha Linker and Allyson Pearson. Dodson also earned the Senior Girl Scout Challenge pin, as did Dusty Swaim. Sally Fayez received the Gold Leadership and two volunteer service bars. Leaders Peggy Dodson and Linda Humphreys received Outstanding Volunteer pins and Barbara Samuelson the VIP pin.

Clemmons Presbyterian Church ordained and installed new elders — Doug Chidester, Richard Crain, Susie Kern and Rena Weitnauer.

Parkwood Lakes residents in Clemmons had the opportunity to connect to the Brookland Drive outfall sewer line.

Bermuda Run resident Mark Metzger captured the bodybuilding title of Mr. All South at a contest held in Columbia, S.C.

In Clemmons Cougar youth basketball action, the Hornets bumped off the Lakers 36-16 to stay undefeated in the Junior Division. The win improved the Hornets’ record to 5-0 and enabled them to remain one of the divisions two unbeaten teams.
